  • Somatotypes of the Affluent and Non-affluent Meitei Boys of Manipur, India

    Open Access•L Dibamani Singh•ARTICLE•The Anthropologist•2011•Cited by: 1•References: 3

Anthropometric somatotypes for 969 Meitei boys aged 12-18 years have been studied following the Heath-Carter method. 488 of the boys belonged to affluent families from urban areas and 481 to non-affluent families from rural areas. The affluent boys showed higher ratings of endomorphy than their non-affluent counterparts, whereas the non-affluent boys were more ectomorphs than the affluent boys. Mesomorphic ratings have no notable difference betwe…

  • Bio-Motor Performance of the Meitei Boys of Manipur

    Open Access•L Dibamani Singh•ARTICLE•Journal of Human Ecology•2010

Six bio-motor performance tests viz., speed acceleration (50 m dash), agility (4 x 10 m shuttle run), cardio-respiratory endurance (600 m run), muscular endurance (flexed arm hang), strength-endurance (bent knee sit ups) and power (standing broad jump) have been administered on 969 boys aged 12 – 18 years belonging to the Meitei ethnic group of Manipur state, India. 488 of the boys are from affluent families and 481 from non-affluent families. • Skinfold Thickness of The Meitei Boys of Manipur

Open Access•L Dibamani Singh, T Shyamacharan Singh et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Human Ecology•2001•References: 2

Six skinfold measurements such as triceps, anterior thigh, medial calf, subscapular, suprailiac and umbilical were taken from 969 Meitei boys of 12 to 18 years of age. 488 of the boys belong to affluent families and 481 to non-affluent families. The affluent boys possess thicker skinfolds than their non-affluent counterparts in all the measurements and age groups. Peak adolescent growth spurt could not be seen for separate skinfolds in both the b…

  • Body Composition of the Meitei Boys of Manipur

Open Access•L Dibamani Singh, T Shyamacharan Singh et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Human Ecology•1999•References: 4

The purpose of this paper is to study changes in body composition compartments of 969 Meitei boys ranging in age from 12 to 18 years 488 of the boys belong to affluent families and 481 to non-affluent families The affluent Meitei boys show greater fractional body masses, viz., fat mass, skeletal mass, muscle mass and residual mass than their non-affluent counterparts. Peak adolescent sport for all these fractional masses occur during 14 to 15 yea…
