Barriers and Facilitators to Providing Preventive Dental Care for Young Children in Dental Settings
Potentially modifiable barriers were identified at provider, practice, and policy levels. Further research is needed regarding the financial impacts of public insurance reimbursement rates, the potential role of bias in access to preventive dental services, and the effects of systematic accountability for performance on quality and equity measures related to preventive dental care
Variation in Current Guidelines for Fluoride Varnish Application for Young Children in Medical Settings in the United States
Background: The United States Preventive Services Task Force recommends that medical providers apply fluoride varnish (FV) to the teeth of all children under 6 years of age, but fewer than 10% of eligible children receive FV as recommended. Prior studies suggest that variation in clinical guidelines is associated with low uptake of other evidence-based health-related interventions, but consistency of national guidelines for the delivery of FV in …

A Qualitative Study of Health Workers' Experiences During Early Surges in the Covid-19 Pandemic in the U.S
Background: Health workers (HWs) have faced significant threats to physical and psychological health during the COVID-19 pandemic. The recent surges associated with the spread of the delta variant in the U.S., coupled with political resistance to effective public health mitigation strategies, indicate that the risks experienced early in the pandemic are not likely to abate soon. This study sought to better understand the experiences, thoughts, co…
Delivery of fluoride varnish during pediatric medical visits by rurality
All young children are recommended to receive fluoride varnish applications in medical settings, yet overall rates were low. For privately insured young children, pediatric well-child medical visits were more likely to include fluoride varnish in rural and rural remote counties than metropolitan counties
Barriers and Facilitators to Implementation of Value-Based Care Models in New Medicaid Accountable Care Organizations in Massachusetts
Introduction: Massachusetts established 17 new Medicaid accountable care organizations (ACOs) and 24 affiliated Community Partners (CPs) in 2018 as part of a large-scale healthcare reform effort to improve care value. The new ACOs will receive $1.8 billion dollars in state and federal funding over 5 years through the Delivery System Reform Incentive Program (DSRIP). The multi-faceted study described in this protocol aims to address gaps in knowle…
Community Perspectives on the Creation of a Hospital-Based Doula Program

However, women in lower-income populations often do not have access to doulas. This study explored community perspectives on doula care to inform the development of a hospital-based doula program to serve primarily low-income women of color. Methods: Four focus groups and four individual …
