Motivation for recreational sport participation and leisure constraints: A segmentation perspective
The role of extrinsic motivation should be noted, as it is equally important in the context of recreational sports, alongside intrinsic motivation, through the individual's internalization processes
Do more involved trail runners feel happier? An application Perma model
This paper examined the involvement of trail runners and compared their level of subjective well-being, measured with the holistic approach of the PERMA profiler (Positive Emotions, Engagement, Relationships, Meaning, and Accomplishment) in the different stages of the Psychological Continuum Model (PCM). Four hundred and three (N = 403) trail runners participated in the study and filled out the Leisure Involvement and the PERMA questionnaires. Fo…
Leisure Constraints and Subjective Well-Being: The Case of Recreational Sport Participants
This paper aimed to examine whether and how constraint dimensions interact with subjective well-being, measured in a holistic approach with the PERMA profiler, and in relation to recreational sport participation. The data were collected via an on-site survey, in a sample of five hundred Greek adult individuals (N = 500). The results showed that intrapersonal constraints had the strongest negative influence on individuals’ intentions to participat…
The role of social support in overcoming leisure constraints in recreational sport participation
IntroductionFollowing the hierarchical model of leisure constraints and the negotiation proposition, this study aimed to investigate whether individuals with different levels of leisure constraints exhibit varying scores in their perceived social support. By testing the relationship between constraints and social support, the study contributes to the literature by adding one more factor that determines the successful negotiation of leisure constr…

Using the Theories of Planned Behaviour and Leisure Constraints to study Fitness Club Members’ behaviour after Covid-19 Lockdown
This paper aimed to examine fitness club members' willingness to start exercising in the clubs with the end of the lockdown. The Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) was used in order to explore which of its components can predict club members' intention; furthermore, the degree to which leisure constraints can predict the formation of the elements of the TPB was tested. Three hundred and twenty three (N = 323) questionnaires were used; they were co…
