  • The Undescribed Juvenile Maxilla from Contrebandiers Cave, Morocco—A Study on Middle Stone Age Facial Growth

Open Access•Sarah E Freidline, Philipp Gunz et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Paleolithic Archaeology•2024

In 2009, renewed excavations at the Middle Stone Age (MSA) site of Contrebandiers Cave, Morocco, yielded a skull and partial skeleton of a child dated to Marine Isotope Stage 5. While much of the cranium was found shattered, the midface remained largely intact. In this study, we virtually reconstructed the maxilla and quantified its shape using three-dimensional geometric morphometric methods and compared it to an extensive sample of non-adult an…

  • Inner ear modifications in Dar-es-Soltane II H5 (Morocco)

    Open Access•Dany Coutinho‐nogueira, Dany Coutinho-Nogueira et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

OBJECTIVE: This paper presents the inner ear modifications in Dar-es-Soltane II H5, an Aterian fossil possibly dated to 100 ka. MATERIAL: The remains consist of a large portion of the cranium including the face, the left frontal and temporal bones, part of the left parietal bone and greater wing of the sphenoid. METHODS: The bony labyrinth anatomy was investigated on existing micro-CT data acquired by the MPI-EVA. RESULTS: The observation of micr…

  • The rodents from the late middle Pleistocene hominid-bearing site of J'bel Irhoud, Morocco, and their chronological and paleoenvironmental implications

Open Access•Denis Geraads, Fethi Amani et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2013

The rodents from the late middle Pleistocene hominin-bearing locality of J'bel Irhoud include the following species: Meriones shawii , Gerbillus grandis , Dipodillus campestris , Paraethomys ras , Lemniscomys barbarus , Mus cf. spretus , and Eliomys sp. We consider M. shawii , a living species, as identical with the middle Pleistocene Meriones maghrebianus . The mouse differs from the domestic Mus musculus but does not clearly fit into Mus spretu…

  • Pollution impact on the ancient ramparts of the Moroccan city Salé

Open Access•Izabela Ozga, Alessandra Bonazza et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Cultural Heritage•2013•References: 20
