  • Analytical study of metal from the Petrovka Culture of Northern Kazakhstan

    Open Access•Sergei Kuzminykh, A D Degtyareva et al.•ARTICLE•Povolzhskaya Arkheologiya (The…•2024

The results of spectral, mass spectrometric and energy-dispersive scanning electron microscopy analyzes of non-ferrous metal from the Petrovka culture of the XIX–XVIII centuries BC in Northern Kazakhstan are presented. The metal was mainly analyzed by spectral analysis in the 70s–80s of the XX century in the Laboratory of natural science methods of the Institute of Archaeology of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Since the collection is in the fun…

  • Chemistry of tin bronzes and possible sources of tin in the Urals and Kazakhstan in the Late Bronze Age

    Open Access•Dmitry A Artemyev, A D Degtyareva et al.•ARTICLE•Vestnik arheologii, antropologii…•2024•Cited by: 1•References: 17

The article discusses geochemical groups identified according to the results of the LA-ISP-MS analysis of tin bronzes of the Ural-Kazakhstan region of the Late Bronze Age. Based on the statistical analysis of 13 impurity ele-ments of 74 bronze and tin-containing copper products from the sites of the 2nd - early 1st mil BC in the Southern Trans-Urals and Northern Kazakhstan, seven chemically contrasting groups have been identified, which mark vari…

  • Non-ferrous metal of the Bronze Age of Northern Kazakhstan: Geochemical Characteristics and Ore Base

    Open Access•Dmitry A Artemyev, A D Degtyareva et al.•ARTICLE•Vestnik arheologii, antropologii…•2024•Cited by: 3•References: 17

The chemical composition of 29 copper and bronze artifacts from the sites of the Petrovka and Alakul Cultures located be-tween the Tobol and Ishim Rivers (the burial grounds of Bekteniz and Dzhangildy 5, and the sites of Novonikolskoye 1 and Semioz-ernoye 2; Northern Kazakhstan) were analysed using mass spectrometry with inductively coupled plasma and laser ablation. The sites are 14C dated to the interval between the 19th-17th centuries BC. In t…

  • Non-ferrous metal tool complex of the Petrovka Culture of Northern Kazakhstan: Morphologi-Cal and Typological Characteristics

    Open Access•Sergei Kuzminykh, A D Degtyareva et al.•ARTICLE•Vestnik arheologii, antropologii…•2023•Cited by: 1•References: 8

Tools and weapons made of copper and bronze from the Petrovka Culture of the Northern Kazakhstan of the 19th-18th cen-turies BC are presented, originating mainly from sites complexes explored in the 70-80s 20th century G.B. Zdanovich and S.Ya. Zda-novich. When distributing tools and weapons by type, methods of typological division of equipment were used, taking into ac-count the configuration of the product, the presence or absence of certain qua…

  • Northern Periphery of the Circumpontian Metallurgical Province: Metal, Alloys, Technology

Sergei Kuzminykh, A D Degtyareva et al.•ARTICLE•Stratum plus Archaeology and…•2022

The article summarizes the results of metal research and metalworking of the Eneolithic cultures of the forest zone of Eastern Europe. In total, 897 products were recorded in the regions of the North-West, Volga-Oka, Kama-Vyatka, Ural-Kazakhstan, including 21 molds. A morphological and typological study of inventory was carried out, the vast majority of which comes from settlements (901); 7 ornaments were found in the burial grounds. The chemical…

  • Issues in the Calendar Chronology of the Seima-Turbino Transcultural Phenomenon

    Open Access•E N Chernykh, Еvgenij N Chernykh et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeology Ethnology and…•2017•Cited by: 8

The Seima-Turbino (ST) transcultural phenomenon was unique for the Eurasian Bronze Age. Its very rare but highly specific memorial sanctuaries and randomly found bronze artifacts are scattered across a 7000-km-long, gently sloping arс spanning territories from northern China to the Baltic and the Lower Dniester––nearly 4 mln km 2 . However, until recently, no reliable radiocarbon database relating to ST was available. The situation changed after …
