Longitudinal Changes Among Latino/a Immigrant Parental Acculturation and Extra-Familial Immigration-Related Stress
Foreign-born Latino/a immigrants currently make up 12.9% of the total U.S. population. Latino/a immigrants continue to be exposed to widespread health and mental health care disparities. Scholarship focused on the needs of Latino/a immigrants continues to be characterized by multiple gaps. Gay Male Adaptation in the Coming-Out Process
Seventeen interviews were completed with self-identified gay men, with the goal of identifying a theory of adaption through the coming out process. A commonality through the identity-development process emerged, highlighting concerns of stigma and bias. The characteristics of 51 very low-income and 61 middle-income couples receiving services from a university-based community clinic offering a sliding fee scale were compared on a number of demographic variables. The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between identity styles and recovery from substance abuse. Consistent findings have established a relationship be- tween identity diffusion and substance misuse, but no research has explored the influence of identity styles on recovery processes. Remarried Clients Seeking Marital Therapy as Compared to Those Seeking Family Therapy
This study compared marital and psychological distress in remarried persons entering a university-related clinic for marital (MT) or family therapy (FT). Complete data from the Brief Symptom Inventory (BSI), Dyadic Adjustment Scale (DAS), FACES-III, and number of children in the home were available for 82 remarried women (41 FT) and 62 remarried men (21 FT). Ethnic differences in early adolescents' coping with school stress
Three groups of early adolescents were compared on the prevalence and stressfulness of school-related events experienced during the transition to seventh grade, as well as on their individual coping behavior and the availability, extent, and type of social support they could mobilize. Implications for the development of intervention programs targeting minority adolescents are discussed
