  • Digital Dermatoglyphics in Leprosy

    Open Access•P E Natekar, PrashantE Natekar et al.•ARTICLE•The Anthropologist•2007

Finger print patterns of 150 leprosy patients (100 paucibacillary and 50 multibacillary leprosy) were compared with 100 controls matched accordingly. The finger print pattern such as whorls, loops, arches, total finger ridge count (TFRC) and absolute finger ridge count (AFRC) were calculated. These dermatoglyphic parameters were compared to that of the controls. It was observed that the finger print pattern showed increase in the whorls and decre…

  • Methotrexate Induced Gross Malformations in Chick Embryos

    Open Access•P E Natekar, PrashantE Natekar•ARTICLE•Journal of Human Ecology•2007

Methotrexate is a drug that is used to treat rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, Reiter’s syndrome, acute lymphoblastic leukemia, ectopic pregnancy and other conditions. Since methotrexate is well known for its teratogenic effects in humans, the present study is conducted to observe its effect on chick embryos. A single injection of 0.012 mg of methotrexate was injected into the yolk sac of chick embryos on 5th day of incubation. The eggs …

  • Digital Dermal Patterns in Carcinoma of Breast

    Open Access•P E Natekar, PrashantE Natekar et al.•ARTICLE•The Anthropologist•2006

Finger print patterns of 100 female patients of cancer of breast were compared with 100 matchedcontrols accordingly. A pattern of six or more digital loops were identified more frequently in women with breastcancer than those without the disease (p 6 whorls are also significantly associated negatively with carcinoma of breast(χ2 =16.61, d f=1, p 6 whorls have a protective effect for carcinoma of breast. (OR=0.1319,95% C.I. = 0.035-0.49). These fi…

  • Axial Triradii in Carcinoma of Breast

    Open Access•P E Natekar, PrashantE Natekar et al.•ARTICLE•The Anthropologist•2006

Palmar prints of 100 female patients of carcinoma of breast were compared with 100 controls matched accordingly. The incidence of axial triradius t’ and double triradius (t + t’) in both hands was significantly higher (p<0.001) in carcinoma of breast patients when compared with controls indicating possible genetic predisposition to cancer of breast
