  • Potential Use of the Small-Eyed Needle from Late Pre-Pottery Neolithic Baʿja in Jordan

Hans Georg K Gebel, Bellal Abuhelaleh et al.•ARTICLE•Near Eastern Archaeology•2025•References: 5

  • Archaeometric Insights into Pre-pottery Neolithic Clay Technologies at Ba`ja, Jordan: Distinguishing Three Types of Clay Objects

Open Access•Lucia Miškolciová, Karel Slavíček et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeological and Anthropological…•2025•References: 28

Increasing evidence of baked clay vessels at the Final Pre-Pottery Neolithic (FPPNB) sites in Fertile Crescent has challenged the traditional distinction between the Pre-Pottery and Pottery Neolithic periods. This study examines a significant collection of FPPNB clay artefacts from the Ba`ja site, Greater Petra Area, Southern Jordan, found during several excavation seasons, that were registered with the category of Unbaked/baked clay objects. We …

  • Ainab 1 and the Eastward Expansion of Early PPNB Traditions: Unveiling Neolithic Connections between the Levant and Arabia through the Lenses of Chipped Stone Industry

Open Access•Denis Štefanisko, Christoph Purschwitz et al.•ARTICLE•Paléorient•2024

`Ainab 1, situated in southeastern Jordan near the Saudi Arabian border, represents a unique archaeological site discovered by H. G. K. Gebel. This small open-air hunting encampment encompasses 11 structures, with structure A selected for excavation during the 2014 season. The excavations yielded over 5,000 chipped industry specimens, complemented by fragments of animal bones and ground stones. The camp’s dating to the Early Pre-Pottery Neolithic…

  • Polylinear incursions and autochthonous adaptations: Neolithisation and sustainable sedentarisation of the Arabian Peninsula

    Open Access•Hans Georg K Gebel•ARTICLE•Arabian archaeology and epigraphy•2020

This contribution’s broad and in parts essayistic approach to Arabia’s Neolithic is less a discussion of findings than an explicit advocacy for future holistic research strategies. Based on the contribution’s meta‐theoretical inputs, it suggests two sets of theses to be tested by the hitherto gained fragmentary information and future research on Arabia’s Neolithic. It aims to encourage an “emancipation” of Arabia’s early to mid‐Holocene research …

  • Climate forcing and shifts in water management on the Northwest Arabian Peninsula (mid-Holocene Rasif wetlands, Saudi Arabia)

  • The Prehistory of Jordan, II: Perspectives from 1997

  • Geometric objects from LPPNB Es-Sifiya, Wadi Mujib, Jordan

    Hamzeh M Mahasneh, Hans Georg K Gebel•ARTICLE•Paléorient•1998•Cited by: 8

We present preliminary information on a production area for clay geometric objects and figurines recovered from the Late PPNB site Es-Sifiya in, southern Jordan. The area contained the products of a single manufacturing event: 475 complete and fragmentary animal and "human" figurines, geometries, and fired discarded modeling waste. The geometric objects found in this hitherto unique primary context are discussed with respect to formal analysis, i…

  • Note on 'Ain Rahub, a new Late Natufian site near Irbid, Jordan

Hans Georg K Gebel, Mujahed Muheisen•ARTICLE•Paléorient•1985•Cited by: 2
