  • Measuring Program Outcomes

    Open Access•Clara C Pratt, William M McGuigan et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Evaluation•2000•Cited by: 54•References: 1

This study used longitudinal data from 307 mothers with firstborn infants participating in a home-visitation, child-abuse prevention program. A self-report measure of specific constructs the program hoped to affect showed that the retrospective pretest methodology produced a more legitimate assessment of program outcomes than did the traditional pretest-posttest methodology. Results showed that when response shift bias was present, traditional pr…

  • Informal Caregiving to Aging Family Members

    Alexis J Walker, Clara C Pratt et al.•ARTICLE•Family Relations•1995

Since the early 1980s, there has been an explosion of literature on caregiving to aging family members. This work appears in a variety of outlets, but mostly in gerontological journals, and somewhat peripherally in journals specifically focused on families. Within the family caregiving literature, there is great ambiguity around three significant questions: (a) What is caregiving? (b) What are the negative and positive outcomes of caregiving for …

  • Perceived Frequency of role Conflict and Relationship Quality for Caregiving Daughters

    Open Access•Alexis J Walker, Clara C Pratt et al.•ARTICLE•Psychology of Women Quarterly•1993•Cited by: 2•References: 5

A role-conflict approach was employed to explore the impact of perceived frequency of conflict between caregiving and other obligations on the quality of relationships between daughters and their care-receiving mothers. Frequency of conflict between caregiving and responsibilities as a wife, mother, and paid and unpaid worker was assessed. Daughters reported relatively infrequent conflict between caregiving and other obligations. A multiple regre…

  • Nurses' fear of death and comfort level with dying patients

    Jan Hare, Clara C Pratt•ARTICLE•Death Studies•1989•Cited by: 1•References: 2

This study examined differences in nurses' fear of death and level of comfort with patients having a poor prognosis for survival, as a function of the nurses' occupational level, work setting, and level of exposure to such patients. In addition, the relationship among the multidimensional aspects of fear of death and level of comfort with patients' poor prognosis was assessed. The sample included 312 professional and paraprofessional nurses who w…

  • The impact of diabetes education and peer support upon weight and glycemic control of elderly persons with noninsulin dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM)

    W Wilson, C Pratt et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•1987•Cited by: 3•References: 10

We assessed diabetes education and peer support interventions as facilitators of weight loss and glycemic control in a community sample of 79 elderly persons with noninsulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM). Different groups received: education only, education and peer support, and no treatment. Peer support was higher in groups where it was actively facilitated. Weight loss and reduction in level of glycemic control occurred within groups rec…

  • Impact of sibling death on children's behavior

    Darlene E McCown, Clara C Pratt et al.•ARTICLE•Death Studies•1985•Cited by: 2

Research has indicated that siblings of deceased children demonstrate a variety of behavioral problems as a result of the death. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship of selected factors and children's behavior during the first year following the siblings' deaths. The sample included 33 boys and 32 girls ages 4 to 16 years who were the siblings of deceased children. Data on their behavior was obtained by an interview with th…
