Relative Antiquity of Human Occupation and Extinct Fauna at Madura Cave, Southeastern Western Australia
National Industries and Local Occupational Strengths: The Cross-Hairs of Targeting
The Last Interglacial Ocean
The final effort of the CLIMAP project was a study of the last interglaciation, a time of minimum ice volume some 122,000 yr ago coincident with the Substage 5e oxygen isotopic minimum. Based on detailed oxygen isotope analyses and biotic census counts in 52 cores across the world ocean, last interglacial sea-surface temperatures (SST) were compared with those today. There are small SST departures in the mid-latitude North Atlantic (warmer) and t…
Late Pleistocene Paleoclimates of North America as Inferred from Stable Isotope Studies of Speleothems
Some speleothems (CaCO 3 cave deposits) can be demonstrated to have been formed in oxygen isotopic equilibrium with their parent seepage waters and thus a record of relative fluctuations in depositional temperature can be obtained from the δ 18 O variations in successive growth layers of such deposits. These temperature fluctuations reflect variations in the average annual air temperature at the surface above the cave, and therefore permit infere…
The evolution of territoriality and society in top carnivores
A behavior model for Australopithecus africanus
A cross-species analysis of carnivore, primate, and hominid behaviour
