    Open Access•Gail M Williamson, Jay G Silverman•ARTICLE•Journal of Social and Personal…•2001•Cited by: 5•References: 49

Data from 172 male university students provide evidence for the role of communal orientation (dispositional beliefs that relationship partners should be mutually responsive to each other's needs) in predicting violence against female partners. Gail M Williamson, Andrew S Walters•ARTICLE•The Journal of Sex Research•1996•Cited by: 2•References: 4

Among the variables predicting more negative impact on sexual activity were older age, being unmarried, and greater feelings of amput…

    Sheldon Cohen, Gail M Williamson•ARTICLE•Psychological Bulletin•1991•Cited by: 58

This article reviews research on the role of stress in infectious disease as measured either by illness behaviors (symptoms and use of health services) or by verified pathology. Substantial evidence was found for an association between stress and increased illness behavior, and less convincing but provocative evidence was found for a similar association between stress and infectious pathology. Introverts, isolates, and persons lacking social skil…

Observed in 2 initial studies was converging evidence that helping improves the helpers' moods and self-evaluations. In these studies Ss induced to help showed improved moods and self-evaluations relative to Ss not given an opportunity to help. A 3rd study examined the moderating effects of desired relationship type on reactions to having helped. In this study Ss were led to desire either a communal or an exchange relationship with another. They …
