  • Can we extend the prolonged effects of a 180-s stretching exercise by applying an additional 15-s stretching bout

Open Access•Masatoshi Nakamura, Kazuki Kasahara et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Sports and Active…•2024

Introducation This study aimed to clarify whether or not the prolonged effect of a 180-s static stretching (SS) exercise could be maintained for a longer period by performing an additional short-term (15-s) SS exercise following a 15-min rest. Methods The participants were 15 healthy untrained adult males in three conditions: (1) SS condition (180-s SS exercise only); (2) SS + 15 s condition (180-s SS and 15-s SS exercise during the rest period);…

  • The Effect of Static Compression via Vibration Foam Rolling on Eccentrically Damaged Muscle

Open Access•Masatoshi Nakamura, Kazuki Kasahara et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

Previous research has shown that vibration foam rolling (VFR) on damaged muscle can result in improvements in muscle soreness and range of motion (ROM). Furthermore, static compression via VFR (i.e., VFR without rolling) can increase the ROM and decrease the muscle stiffness of non-damaged muscle. Therefore, it is likely that static compression via VFR on eccentrically damaged muscle can mitigate muscle soreness and the decrease in ROM, and the d…

  • Relationship of type of work with health-related quality of life

Open Access•Yuri Kawabe, Yasuyuki Nakamura et al.•ARTICLE•Quality of Life Research•2015

  • Long-term impact of the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and tsunami on functional disability among older people: A 3-year longitudinal comparison of disability prevalence among Japanese municipalitie…

    Open Access•Yasutake Tomata, Yoshinori Suzuki et al.•ARTICLE•Social Science & Medicine•2015•Cited by: 3•References: 6

It has been unclear whether the prevalence of disability is higher in an area affected by natural disaster than in other areas even if more than one year has passed since the disaster. The aim of this ecological study was to examine whether the rate of increase in disability prevalence among the older population was higher in disaster-stricken areas during the 3 years after the Great East Japan Earthquake (GEJE) and tsunami. This analysis used pu…

  • Relationship between health-related quality of life and clustering of metabolic syndrome diagnostic components

Open Access•Sayuri Katano, Yasuyuki Nakamura et al.•ARTICLE•Quality of Life Research•2011

  • P1-257 Relationship between the number of established cardiovascular risk factors and annual medical costs in Japan: Cost analysis in 38 890 Japanese individuals

Yuta Murakami, Tomonori Okamura et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•2011

Background Information about the relationship between the number of established cardiovascular disease risk factors and medical costs is limited. Methods A linked analysis of the medical costs and health examination measures was performed in Shiga, Japan. Medical costs information for the period April 2000–May 2006 was collected from the Shiga National Health Insurance Organization database. Corresponding data for 38 890 individuals (age, ≥40 yea…

  • P1-530 Blood pressure categories and long-term mortality risk of total and components of cardiovascular diseases among Japanese: A 24 year follow-up of representative Japanese (Nippon Data80)

Naoyuki Takashima, Katsuyuki Miura et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•2011

In Western population, blood pressure (BP) was reported to predict long-term (over 20 years) future mortality of cardiovascular diseases (CVD). However, there is few reports based on long-term follow-up studies in Asian population where stroke is dominant among CVDs. We investigated the association between BP and 24 year mortality risk of total and components of CVD in a representative Japanese population. Methods A cohort study of nationwide rep…

  • P2-309 Impact of excess weight on the relationship between blood pressure and cardiovascular disease: The Asia Pacific Cohort Studies Collaboration

Rumi Tsukinoki, Yuta Murakami et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•2011

Background Elevated blood pressure and excess weight are established major risk factors for cardiovascular disease (CVD). Previous studies have suggested that hypertension is a greater cardiovascular hazard among obese compared with lean individuals, but the epidemiological evidence is conflicting. Methods and Results The interaction between systolic blood pressure (SBP) and BMI on fatal or non-fatal coronary heart disease (CHD), ischaemic stroke…

  • SP3-40 Disability-free life expectancy and related factors in Japan

Tatsuya Noda, Takeshi Ojima et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•2011

Introduction Disability-free life expectancy (DFLE) is an average number of years that a person can expect to live in “full health.” The Japanese government asked all 47 prefectures to reflect DFLE in their health policies. To meet this political demand, we estimated DFLE of all the prefectures in Japan by the data of the Long-Term Care Insurance System implemented in 2000 and examined socio-demographic and health factors which might influence DF…

  • Population Attributable Fraction of Smoking and Metabolic Syndrome on Cardiovascular Disease Mortality in Japan: A 15-Year Follow Up of Nippon Data90

Open Access•Naoyuki Takashima, Katsuyuki Miura et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2010

Our results indicated that a large proportion of excess CVD deaths was observed in smokers without metabolic syndrome or obesity, especially in men. These findings suggest that intervention targeting on smokers, irrespective of the presence of metabolic syndrome, is still important for the prevention of CVD in Asian countries

  • Myocardial infarction deaths after high level exposure to particulate matter

Yuta Murakami, Yoshitaka Murakami et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•2006•Cited by: 1•References: 12

Study objective: To examine the short term effects of raised concentrations of air pollutants on myocardial infarction deaths, the authors measured if incidence rate ratios increased after the concentration of suspended particulate matter (SPM) reached various critical values and were sustained for various periods of time. Design: Retrospective analysis of a database, which contained hourly SPM concentrations and myocardial infarction deaths. Met…
