Effectiveness of accelerated posttraumatic stress disorder treatment
The aim of this exploratory study was to compare posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and depression symptom reductions immediately after conclusion of treatment and 3 months following a 2-week accelerated inperson treatment between service members and veterans who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ), and their non-LGBTQ military peers. This study hypothesized there would not be differences in PTSD or depression symp…
Reductions in PTSD severity precede reductions in pain intensity among veterans receiving intensive treatment
Our findings support the mutual maintenance regarding the association between PTSD and pain intensity. Future research should investigate temporal associations in other evidence-based PTSD treatments and formats and evaluate the long-term impacts of PTSD treatment on pain intensity. More is not always better
In the context of intensive PTSD treatment, the content of the ITP appears to matter more than its overall length. Shorter programs have the potential to increase access and treatment capacity. Our findings demonstrate the importance of continuous and rigorous program evaluation. Limitations as well as future directions for research, such as identifying the most effective treatment components, are discussed. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2023 APA…
A Cross-Species Examination of Pro-White Color Bias Using a Novel Implicit Association Test
There is abundant evidence for pro-White color bias across the social psychology literature. In human–animal interaction work, black dog syndrome (BDS) refers to preference toward lighter-colored dogs over black dogs, leading to differences in rates of euthanasia and adoption. BDS has received mixed support in prior studies. Results from studies examining explicit color preference toward animals are also inconsistent. Numerous studies report stro…
A case series examining PTSD and depression symptom reductions over the course of a 2-week virtual intensive PTSD treatment program for veterans
Results of this case series suggest that evidence-based treatments for PTSD can be effectively delivered in intensive formats over telehealth and lay the foundation for more rigorously designed and larger scale research comparing virtual to in-person delivered intensive PTSD treatments. We conducted preregistered replications of 28 classic and contemporary published findings, with protocols that were peer reviewed in advance, to examine variation in effect magnitudes across samples and settings. Each protocol was administered to approximately half of 125 samples that comprised 15,305 participants from 36 countries and territories. Using the conventional criterion of statistical significance ( p < .05), we found that 15 (54%) of …
A multi-level modeling approach examining PTSD symptom reduction during prolonged exposure therapy
People living with HIV (PLWH) have extensive interpersonal trauma histories and higher rates of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) than the general population. Prolonged exposure (PE) therapy is efficacious in reducing PTSD across a variety of trauma samples; however, research has not examined factors that influence how PTSD symptoms change during PE for PLWH. Using multi-level modeling, we examined the potential moderating effect of number of …
A Qualitative Review and Integrative Model of Gratitude and Physical Health
Gratitude is seen as a central component of Christian theology, and the extant literature suggests that there is an important relation between gratitude and physical health and well-being. In the current review, we summarize 42 studies published since 2009 that inform this relationship. Based on the theoretical framework by Hill, Allemand, and Roberts (2013), we organize our review in three sections that focus on how gratitude influences physical…
The moderating impact of interacting with distressed families of decedents on trauma exposure in medical examiner personnel
Findings of our research underscore the need for training employees in high-risk occupations to manage their reactions to exposure to distraught family members. Employee training may buffer risk for developing PTSD and depression. (PsycINFO Database Record

Authoring (in)Authenticity, Regulating Religious Tolerance
This article explores the politicization of `conversion' discourses in contemporary India, focusing on the rising popularity of anti-conversion legislation at the individual state level. While `Freedom of Religion' bills contend to represent the power of the Hindu nationalist cause, these pieces of legislation reflect both the political mobility of Hindutva as a symbolic discourse and the practical limits of its enforcement value within Indian la…
