  • Who are we, and what is the nature of reality? Insights from scientists’ spiritually transformative experiences

Patrizio Tressoldi, Marjorie Woollacott•ARTICLE•Journal for the Study of…•2023

To analyze the first-person phenomenological Spiritually Transformative Experiences (STEs) of a sample of scientists and academics, the first-person phenomenological accounts of 40 scientists’ and/or academics’ Spiritually Transformative Experiences were analyzed with respect to their perceived changes in the nature of the personal self and the nature of reality. Eighty-five percent of experiencers described a dissolution of the boundaries of the…

  • Is There Someone in the Hereafter? Mediumship Accuracy of 100 Readings Obtained with a Triple Level of Blinding Protocol

Open Access•Patrizio Tressoldi, Laura Liberale et al.•ARTICLE•OMEGA - Journal of Death and Dying•2022

The accuracy of information obtained by 28 self-claimant mediums related to 100 readings obtained with a triple level of blinding was examined across three indices: percentage of correct reading identified by the sitters, global score of readings and percentage of difference between correct and incorrect information. All three indices showed statistical differences of the intended versus the control readings: correct identification 65%; global sco…

  • Channeling: A Non-pathological Possession and Dissociative Identity Experience or Something Else

Open Access•Luciano Pederzoli, Patrizio Tressoldi et al.•ARTICLE•Culture Medicine and Psychiatry•2021

Channeling experiences are often compared with Dissociative Trance/Possession Disorders and Dissociative Identity Disorders and more recent diagnostic criteria presented in the DSM 5 and ICD-11. From this comparison, it emerges quite clearly that, for most cases, channeling can either be considered an exceptional non-ordinary mental experience or a non-pathological Dissociative Trance/Possession experience. If this characterization is valid, the …

  • To which world regions does the valence-dominance model of social perception apply

    Open Access•Bartlett C Jones, Lisa Debruine et al.•ARTICLE•Nature Human Behaviour•2021•Cited by: 4•References: 48

Over the past 10 years, Oosterhof and Todorov’s valence–dominance model has emerged as the most prominent account of how people evaluate faces on social dimensions. In this model, two dimensions (valence and dominance) underpin social judgements of faces. Because this model has primarily been developed and tested in Western regions, it is unclear whether these findings apply to other regions. We addressed this question by replicating Oosterhof an…

  • In search of the true self.

Enrico Facco, Benedikt Emanuel Al Khafaji et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Theoretical and…•2019

The Self is an interdisciplinary topic encompassing neuroscience, psychology, philosophy and anthropology. Despite the wealth of data available on the topic, its definition remains elusive, while its meaning overlaps with terms such as consciousness, Ego and I, and so has created more confusion and redundancy rather than clarity. Its study is also endowed with deep epistemological and metaphysical implications, on which the accepted axioms, theor…

  • Hypno-death-experiences: Death experiences during hypnotic life regressions

Luciano Pederzoli, Eugenia De Stefano et al.•ARTICLE•Death Studies•2019

In this study we analyzed retrospectively a database of 44 alleged death experiences between incarnations, as reported by 36 participants during hypnotic life regression sessions with the same hypnotist. The descriptions of these experiences were evaluated using the Italian version of the Near-Death Experience Scale. A large part of the reported experiences were categorized as "Affective", with a majority reported as: "Feeling a sense of joy" and…

  • Hypnotically Induced Out-of-Body Experience: How Many Bodies Are There? Unexpected Discoveries About the Subtle Body and Psychic Body

Open Access•Patrizio Tressoldi, Luciano Pederzoli et al.•ARTICLE•SAGE Open•2015

The possibility to induce real out-of-body experiences (OBEs) using hypnotic inductions, with the opportunity to interview participants during their experience, permits to investigate in depth the characteristics of different aspects of this particular state of consciousness from a first-person point of view. In this article, six selected participants report the description of another “body” we named “subtle body,” identified as an intermediate e…

  • Let Your Eyes Predict: Prediction Accuracy of Pupillary Responses to Random Alerting and Neutral Sounds

Open Access•Patrizio Tressoldi, Massimiliano Martinelli et al.•ARTICLE•SAGE Open•2011

This study investigates the prediction accuracy of anticipatory pupil dilation responses in humans prior to the random presentation of alerting or neutral sounds. The aim of this study was to test the hypothesis that the autonomous nervous system may react prior to the presentation of random stimuli. A total of 80 participants, who were matched according to gender to take into account individual differences, were asked to listen to a random seque…

  • A meta-analysis with nothing to hide: Reply to Hyman (2010)

Laura Storm, Lance Storm et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Bulletin•2010

In our article (Storm, Tressoldi, & Di Risio, 2010), we claimed that the ganzfeld experimental design has proved to be consistent and reliable. However, Hyman (2010) argues that the overall evidence for psi is, in fact, contradictory and elusive. We present a case for psi research that undermines Hyman's argument. First, we give examples from parapsychologists who do not outrightly dismiss psi, despite appearances, but actually support it. Second…
