  • Etruscan Teeth and Odontology

Open Access•Luigi Capasso, Gabriella Di Tota•ARTICLE•Dental Anthropology Journal•2018•Citada por: 2

The results of a paleopathological examination of the teeth and supporting structures of a 4th through 2nd century BC Etruscan sample of 119 crania from central Italy reveals a relatively low incidence of caries (27.7%) and high frequencies of antemortem tooth loss (49.6%) and alveolar bone infection (27.7%). The mandibular anterior teeth of one individual were partially covered with a gold strip. The function of this strip may have been ornament…

  • Use of a multiplex polymerase chain reaction assay in the sex typing of DNA extracted from archaeological bone

Open Access•Raffaele Palmirotta, Fabio Verginelli et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•1997

We developed an original method that allows the simultaneous molecular amplification and analysis of human chromosome X- and Y-specific sequences from cortical compact bone using the polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The strategy is based on sequential amplification using external and internal primers. The targeted loci are SRY for chromosome Y and DXZ4 for chromosome X. Internal and external primer pairs for both loci were selected in order to al…

  • Probable persistence of the remains of a Rouget-Neumann sheath into the canalicular system of ancient human bone

    Open Access•Luigi Capasso, Gabriella Di Tota•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•1993•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 1

Examining histological sections obtained from human bones from Iron Age archaeological excavations (about third to fifth century BC, Alfedena and Sulmona, central Italy), the authors show the presence of an amorphous, afibrillary substance inside the osseous canaliculus in decalcified sections. This substance has shown unusual chromaffinity to staining using the Schmorl method with thionine and phosphowolframic acid. It is probably formed by acid…
