  • Musculo-Skeletal Disorders of the Farm Women While Performing the Top Dressing of Fertilizer Activity

Open Access•Suma Hasalkar, Rajeshwari Shivalli et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Human Ecology•2007

Musculo-skeletal disorder is the leading cause of the occupational ill health. This risk of musculo-skeletal disorders may be higher in agricultural workers because of the longer working hours (O’Neill, 2004). Hence the research is aimed to study the postural stress and musculo-skeletal problems of the farm women while performing top dressing of fertilizer activity and to reduce their musculo-skeletal disorders by introducing an improved technolo…

  • Assessment of Workload of Weeding Activity in Crop Production Through Heart Rate

Open Access•Suma Hasalkar, Renuka Budihal et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Human Ecology•2004

Heart rate is one of the accurate means to evaluate the physiological or functional demands of work on the worker. Hence the study was undertaken to know the workload of women in weeding activity. The results revealed that, the total cardiac cost of work while weeding was 6165.87 beats and the physiological cost of work was 14.67 beats/min. The average working heart rate during weeding was observed to be 94.36 beats/min and the average energy exp…
