  • Leather Shoes in Early Danish Cities

Open Access•Luise Ørsted Brandt, Jannie Amsgaard Ebsen et al.•ARTICLE•European Journal of Archaeology•2020•Cited by: 4•References: 1

This article presents the findings of the minimally destructive biomolecular species identification method known as ZooMS (zooarchaeology by mass spectrometry) to identify the use and choices of resources for manufacturing leather shoes in urban contexts in Viking and medieval Denmark. Whereas parchment and historical skin samples have been previously analysed by ZooMS, the potential of the method is demonstrated here for archaeological, vegetabl…

  • Identifying archaeological leather - discussing the potential of grain pattern analysis and zooarchaeology by mass spectrometry (ZooMS) through a case study involving medieval shoe parts from Denmark

Open Access•Jannie Amsgaard Ebsen, Kirstine Haase et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Cultural Heritage•2019•Cited by: 2•References: 20

  • Computed Tomography and Computed Radiography of Late Bronze Age Cremation Urns From Denmark

Open Access•Lise Harvig, Niels Lynnerup et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•2012•Cited by: 7•References: 18

To improve the methods used to study prehistoric cremation rituals, cremation urns from the Danish Late Bronze Age were examined using computed tomography and computed radiography (digital X‐ray). During micro‐excavation, the digital images were used as a registration tool. Our results suggest that osteological ageing and sexing are more accurate when combining CT images with excavated remains. Digital volume rendering further enables a compromis…
