Conceptualising queer activist critiques of Pride in the Two-Thirds World
This article explores queer critiques of LGBT Pride in the ‘Two-Thirds World’, drawing from ethnographic data, focussing on under-researched contexts and analysing common and divergent themes in queer critiques of Pride globally. Criticisms of corporate involvement and capitalist appropriation of Pride are replicated in the case studies; there is also a complex politics of necessity, precarity, and pragmatism. ‘Mainstream’ Prides reflect and can …

The politics of truth at LGBTQ+ Pride
This article focuses on the articulation of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, and queer (LGBTQ+) identities, lives, and rights at Pride events in Hong Kong. I argue that analyzing Pride as a Foucauldian “regime of truth” reveals how it is embedded in and reproduces broader ideological effects and structures of global capitalism. Focusing specifically on the corporate Out Leadership Asia Summit and Hong Kong Migrants Pride, organized by migrant domes…
P1-329 Socioeconomic inequalities in cancer risk by site, age, and sex in Scotland, 2000–2007
Some cancers are associated with socioeconomic inequality (SEI); this study quantified the extent and differences by cancer type, age and sex. We reviewed 216 315 incident cancers (excluding non melanoma skin cancer) from 2000 to 2007 classified into 27 anatomical groups. Further analyses were performed by morphology or sub site. Deprivation was measured using the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation and SEI using the slope index of inequality …

Cancer mortality in England in relation to levels of naturally occurring fluoride in water supplies
Sixty-seven small areas in England have been classified into four groups according to the level of naturally occurring fluoride in their water supplies. Small area mortality statistics for 1969-73 have been used to look for differences in cancer mortality in relation to fluoride levels. Deaths from all cancers and from cancer at 12 specific body sites have been examined; no consistent trends in mortality are apparent. These results provide no evi…
Advances in Comparative Ecological Analysis
Concern in this paper is with the specification of control procedures ensuring factor compatibility in spatiotemporal factorial ecology study. Specific attention is given to three considerations when factor solutions are to be used in the analysis of change: Parsimony, invariance, and homogeneity. A series of test procedures are proposed to determine the degree of factor compatibility between comparative solutions and to provide objective measure…
