  • Roman and Early Medieval bronze artifacts from the Middle Tiber Valley

Open Access•Tilde De Caro, Tilde De et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeological and Anthropological…•2026•References: 60

This study focuses on microstructure, chemistry, and patina characterisation of eleven archaeological bronze artefacts from two contexts of the Middle Tiber Valley (Viterbo, Central Italy). The samples were unearthed in the cistern at Spoletino (1st -4th century AD) and in the late Roman-early Medieval necropolis of Castel Sozzio (5th-7th century AD). They were analysed using optical microscopy (OM), micro-Raman spectroscopy (μ-Raman), Scanning E…

  • The key role of Pb-Bi, Pb-Te-Se and S-Fe-Te-Se inclusions, microstructures, and corrosion processes in reconstructing Etruscan metallurgy at Pyrgi (Latium, Italy)

Open Access•Marta Porcaro, Laura Maria Michetti et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Cultural Heritage•2025•References: 9

Nails and aes rude are made of Cu, while arrowheads are made of Cu-Sn-Pb alloy. • Pb-Bi, Pb-Te-Se, and S-Fe-Te-Se inclusions trace ancient Etruscan metallurgy. • Cuprite and malachite were identified by micro-Raman as the main corrosion products. • Electrochemical tests showed variability in corrosion among site areas. The archaeological site of Pyrgi (Santa Severa, Rome, Italy) has yielded a diverse range of metal artifacts that provide valuable…
