  • Paleogeographic reconstruction of the formation of the first terrace of the Vitim River in the context of the evolution of the Mamakan Geoarchaeological Region

    Open Access•A V Tetenkin, A V Arzhannikova et al.•ARTICLE•Vestnik arheologii, antropologii…•2026

Contrary to conventional assumptions about the Holocene age of the first floodplain terrace of the Vitim River, a study of sites within the Mamakan Archaeological Ensemble (located in the lower reaches) — including Kovrizhka IV, Invalidny III (locations 3 and 4), and the Pavlova sites — reveals that the transition from floodplain to terrace occurred at varying intervals during the period 13.6–10.6 cal ka BP. These findings prompted the authors to…

  • Late Pleistocene–Holocene sedimentation and Late Upper Paleolithic–Neolithic human occupation of the Vitim River valley (Baikal–Patom Highlands, Eastern Siberia) at Kovrizhka I–VI.

    Open Access•A V Tetenkin, Sergei G Arzhannikov et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2026

The Kovrizhka sites are some of the most studied and highly informative for the entire northern Cis-Baikal region of Siberia and illustrate the history and development of ancient cultures in the Vitim area during the Late Upper Paleolithic to Early Neolithic. To better understand human settlement practices during this time, we constructed a model of Late Quaternary landscape formation and human occupation in the Vitim River valley based on a geom…

  • Evidence of Early Holocene outburst floods from landslide-dammed lakes in the Central Baikal Rift Zone, Eastern Siberia

    Open Access•G Arzhannikov, S G Arzhannikov et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2026•References: 51

  • Chronology of glacial megafloods in the Baikal-Patom Upland (South Siberia)

    Open Access•A V Arzhannikova, G Arzhannikov et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2025

  • Model of the Late Quaternary deposits formation at the geoarchaeological ensemble of Kovrizhka and adaptation of ancient man to the hydrological regime of the Vitim River and the restructuring of the …

    Open Access•A V Tetenkin, G Arzhannikov et al.•ARTICLE•Vestnik arheologii, antropologii…•2025•References: 7

As a result of geomorphological research and the analysis of calibrated radiocarbon dates of the archaeo-logical sites of Kovrizhka I-VI (Baikal-Patom Uplands), a model of formation of the Late Quaternary deposits of the Vitim valley within the area of the Kovrizhka ensemble has been developed. Based on this, and according to the archaeological data, the history of human habitation during the late Upper Paleolithic - Early Neolithic (19-6 ka BP) …
