  • The Mental Health of Australian, Chinese and Vietnamese University Students

    Open Access•Duy T H Le, Raymond C K Chan et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of Psychology•2025

The DASS‐21 has been widely used in university student mental health research. However, studies on its cross‐cultural reliability and validity, particularly among Eastern student populations, remain limited. This study examined the DASS‐21's psychometric properties and measurement invariance across Australian, Chinese and Vietnamese students. Data were drawn from multiple surveys conducted between 2017 and 2021, comprising 2420 university student…

  • The effect of implementation intentions on event-, time-, and activity-based prospective memory in typically developing children

Open Access•Tian-Xiao Yang, Shiyu Zhang et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2023

Prospective memory (PM) refers to the ability to remember and complete planned tasks in the future, which relies on working memory (WM) for encoding and maintaining the intention. Implementation intention is a useful strategy for improving PM function in adults. Yet the effect of implementation intentions in children, and whether factors such as age, gender, and WM capacity could modulate its effect remains unclear. In this study, we examined the…

  • Validity and normative data of the Chinese Prospective and Retrospective Memory Questionnaire (PRMQ) across adolescence, adults and elderly people

Tian-Xiao Yang, Ya Wang et al.•ARTICLE•Memory•2022

The Prospective and Retrospective Memory Questionnaire (PRMQ) is a widely-used questionnaire for evaluating individuals' memory failures in everyday life. However, whether the scale is valid for different age groups and gender, and how memory complaints change with age and gender remains less clear. This study aimed to validate the self-report PRMQ in a large Chinese sample across adolescence and adulthood and investigate age-related changes and …

  • Negative symptoms correlate with altered brain structural asymmetry in amygdala and superior temporal region in schizophrenia patients

Open Access•Zetao Huang, Dun Ruan et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2022

Negative symptoms play an important role in development and treatment of schizophrenia. However, brain changes relevant to negative symptoms are still unclear. This study examined brain structural abnormalities and their asymmetry in schizophrenia patients and the association with negative symptoms. Fifty-nine schizophrenia patients and 66 healthy controls undertook structural brain scans. Schizophrenia patients were further divided into predomin…

  • Associations of decreased serum total protein, albumin, and globulin with depressive severity of schizophrenia

Open Access•Xu Yin, Xu Yuan Yin et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2022

Our data suggested that decreased serum TP, albumin, and globulin should be regarded as the SCH risk factors and were implicated in the depressive severity of SCH, which further provided the support for the hypothesis that SCH and depression were accompanied by the abnormal inflammatory cytokines with the APR

  • The co-occurrence of multidimensional loneliness with depression, social anxiety and paranoia in non-clinical young adults

Open Access•Anson Kai Chun Chau, Suzanne Ho‐wai So et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2022

More marked intimate, relational and collective loneliness were evident across profiles that had heightened depression, social anxiety and/or paranoia, suggesting that loneliness may serve as a general risk factor for these psychopathologies. Our findings shed light on the heterogeneity of the co-occurrence of loneliness and various mental health difficulties in non-clinical young adults. Core schemas are suggested to be putative psychological me…

  • Volition in prospective Memory

Open Access•Mikkel C Vinding, Jonas Kristoffer Lindeløv et al.•ARTICLE•Consciousness and Cognition•2021

Volition is the extent to which actions are generated as a result of internal states in contrast to responses to external conditions or dictated by external events. Delayed intentions about future action are stored in prospective memory until the intended action has to be formed at a later point in time. It is unknown how voluntary choice affects prospective memory. We compared the difference between freely chosen and fixed targets on the reactio…

  • Mind wandering in schizophrenia

    Open Access•Tao Chen, Xiao-Jing Qin et al.•ARTICLE•Consciousness and Cognition•2019

Mind wandering has consistently been associated with impairments in cognition, emotion and daily performance. However, few experimental studies on mind wandering have been conducted in individuals with schizophrenia. The present study aimed to examine mind wandering in schizophrenia patients with a thought-sampling experiment embedded in a rapid go/no-go task and the relationship between the frequency of mind wandering and psychotic symptoms. Fif…

  • Cross-cultural validation of the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale–21 in China.

    Kui Wang, Hai‐song Shi et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Assessment•2016

The gap between the demand and delivery of mental health services in mainland China can be reduced by validating freely available and psychometrically sound psychological instruments. The present research examined the Chinese version of the 21-item Depression Anxiety Stress Scales (DASS-21). Study 1 administered the DASS-21 to 1,815 Chinese college students and found internal consistency indices (Cronbach's alpha) of .83, .80, and .82 for the Dep…

  • Devaluation of Rewards for the Future Is Associated With Schizotypal Personality Features

Open Access•Zhi Li, Yanfang Shi et al.•ARTICLE•Australian Psychologist•2016

ObjectiveEmpirical evidence has suggested that schizophrenia is associated with dysfunctions in the reward system and working memory. However, little is known about individuals at risk for schizophrenia. In particular, it is not known if those with schizotypal personality features will show similar deficits in these two domains. This study examined whether individuals with schizotypal personality disorder features will subjectively devalue potent…

  • Facial emotion linked cooperation in patients with paranoid schizophrenia

Open Access•Wai Shing Tse, Yan Lu et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of Social…•2011

Background: Patients with schizophrenia consistently show deficits in facial affect perception and social behaviours. It is illusive to suggest that these deficits in facial affect perception cause poor social behaviours. Aim: The present research aims to study how facial affects influence ingratiation, cooperation and punishment behaviours of the patients. Methods: Forty outpatients with paranoid schizophrenia, 26 matched depressed patients and …

  • Neuropsychological Measures of Executive Function and Antisocial Behavior

    Open Access•James Ogilvie, JAMES M OGILVIE et al.•ARTICLE•Criminology•2011•Cited by: 29•References: 102

A meta-analysis was performed to quantify the association between antisocial behavior (ASB) and performance on neuropsychological executive functioning (EF) measures. This meta-analysis built on Morgan and Lilienfeld's (2000) meta-analysis of the same topic by including recently published studies and by examining a wider range of EF measures. A total of 126 studies involving 14,786 participants were included in the analyses. Antisocial groups per…

  • To 5 Years Old Children’s Behavioral and Verbal Performances in Level 1 Perspective-Taking

Jing Zhao, Lu Wang et al.•ARTICLE•Acta Psychologica Sinica•2010

  • A preliminary study of food transfer in sichuan snub‐nosed monkeys ( Rhinopithecus roxellana )

Open Access•Zhen Zhang, Yanjie Su et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Primatology•2008

Food transfer happens regularly in a few nonhuman primates species that are also characterized by remarkable social tolerance. Sichuan snub‐nosed monkeys ( Rhinopithecus roxellana ), or golden monkeys, which exhibit high social tolerance in their social relationships are thus of interest to see whether tolerance would extend to food transfer. In this study, branch feeding activity was observed in a semi‐captive group of Sichuan snub‐nosed monkeys…

  • Dysexecutive symptoms among a non‐clinical sample

    Open Access•Raymond C K Chan•ARTICLE•British Journal of Psychology•2001

Clinical studies indicate that damage to the frontal lobes may lead to a set of symptoms collectively known as ‘Dysexecutive syndrome’, which is characterized by changes in emotion, personality, motivation, behaviour and cognitive aspects. Factor analytical study using questionnaires measuring dysexecutive problems in everyday life also suggests a fractionation of the dysexecutive syndrome among patients with neurological disorders. As yet, very …
