  • Parental insights into the benefits and feasibility of community-based music enrichment programs for children in economically disadvantaged areas

Open Access•Amy R Smith, Delwyn Catley et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Early Childhood Research•2026

Children from disadvantaged backgrounds have an elevated risk for poor health and developmental outcomes. Families are less likely to participate in interventions if they feel they have been targeted because they fit a particular demographic profile. There is a need for interventions that can engage families from low-socioeconomic backgrounds. Community-based music enrichment (CBME) programs support a strength-based approach by drawing upon famil…

  • O the places rural children will go…to get physical activity

Open Access•Bethany Forseth, Jordan A Carlson et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2025

The School location is supportive of MVPA and high amounts of sedentary time. In addition to supporting children to travel to locations where they are likely to be active, efforts are needed to increase activity in locations where children spend substantial time. Providing more opportunities for activity in/around the home and reducing sedentary time during school may be promising targets for improving health among rural children

  • Adaptation of family-based health promotion to pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia treatment

Open Access•Carolyn R Bates, Anna Van Asselt et al.•ARTICLE•Annals of Behavioral Medicine•2025•References: 39

BACKGROUND: Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is the most common childhood cancer in the United States, with significant rates of overweight and obesity among affected youth. Excessive weight gain during early ALL treatment is linked to poorer health outcomes, including higher relapse rates and long-term morbidities, highlighting the need for interventions to prevent weight gain and improve prognosis. PURPOSE: This study's purpose was to adapt f…

  • Recruitment and reach in a school-based pediatric obesity intervention trial in rural areas

Open Access•Bethany Forseth, Brittany Lancaster et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2023

Introduction: The purpose of this study is to evaluate two recruitment strategies on schools and participant participation rates and representativeness (reach) within a pediatric obesity treatment trial tailored for families who live in rural areas. Methods: Recruitment of schools was evaluated based on their progress toward enrolling participants. Recruitment and reach of participants were evaluated using (1) participation rates and (2) represen…

  • Introducing a Sexual Wellness Clinic to an At-Risk Population Through the Emergency Department

    Open Access•Aniruddha Hazra, Kimberly A Stanford et al.•ARTICLE•Academic Medicine•2023

Rates of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in the United States have continued to increase for nearly a decade as state and local health departments across the country have divested from sexual health services. The resulting closure of municipal STI clinics has led many uninsured and underinsured patients to rely on emergency departments for their sexual health needs. The authors describe the creation of the novel Sexual Wellness Clinic at U…

  • Health-Related Quality of Life across Recent Pediatric Obesity Classification Recommendations

    Open Access•William R Black, Kelsey B Borner et al.•ARTICLE•Children•2021

Extreme body mass index (BMI) values (i.e., above the 97th and below the 3rd percentiles) are inaccurately represented on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's growth curves, which may limit the utility of BMI percentile and BMI z-score for capturing changes in clinical outcomes for patients at extreme weights. Modeling child obesity severity based upon the percentage of BMI in excess of the 95th percentile (BMI95pct) has been proposed…

  • Investigating associations between physical activity-related neighborhood built environment features and child weight status to inform local practice

    Open Access•Jordan A Carlson, Robin P Shook et al.•ARTICLE•Social Science & Medicine•2021•Cited by: 4•References: 23

  • Defining Museum

    A M Davis, Ann J Davis•ARTICLE•ICOFOM Study Series•2020

This paper presents a new definition of museum. In so doing, it departs from five principles: that the definition be short and simple; that it be relatively easy to translate into many languages; that it distinguishes museum from other collecting institutions; that it be flexible enough to allow room for local interpretation and local customs; and that it encompasses the full range of current museum ideologies. This definition seeks to identify t…

  • The use of TeleMedicine in the treatment of paediatric obesity

    Open Access•A M Davis, Rochelle L James et al.•ARTICLE•Maternal and Child Nutrition•2010

To assess the feasibility of conducting empirically supported family-based paediatric obesity group treatment via TeleMedicine. Seventeen families were randomly assigned to one of two conditions (physician visit, TeleMedicine). Measures included feasibility, satisfaction and intervention outcome measures such as BMI percentile, and nutrition and activity behaviours. Measures were completed at baseline, post-treatment and at 1-year follow-up. Anal…

  • A Simple Way of Obtaining the Reduced Jordan Form of a State Equation

    Open Access•A M Davis•ARTICLE•IEEE Transactions on Education•2004

This paper presents a succinct and entirely elementary method for determining a minimal Jordan form of a given state equation. It is constructive and is based upon the idea of grouping terms appropriately in the partial fraction expansion. The method is highly suited to presentation in classes in linear systems and control theory, offering a good pedagogical introduction to the topic of Jordan equivalent matrices, although it is not suggested as …

  • Some fundamental topics in introductory circuit analysis

    Open Access•A M Davis•ARTICLE•IEEE Transactions on Education•2000

Circuit analysis grew from an empirical base, and the prevailing attitude is that it is a "tools course" for more specialized courses that follow. Perhaps for that reason, the various topics covered in the typical introductory circuits course have not been thoroughly examined for pedagogy, technical accuracy, and relevance to other more advanced concepts in circuit theory. This paper was written to initiate such a study by pointing out specific e…

  • Paleoenvironment and the archaeological record at the L'Anse Aux Meadows Site, Newfoundland

    Open Access•A M Davis, A M J Davis et al.•ARTICLE•Geoarchaeology•1988•Cited by: 3•References: 3

Archaeological evidence from the marine terrace and fen at the site indicates brief episodic occupation for over 5000 years. Five cultural episodes have been identified, although the site is renowned for its Norse settlement. A fen on the site has provided both artifacts and fossil pollen. Although the pollen spectra are dominated by disturbance taxa, they indicate little or no human impact. Both the archaeological data and the pollen spectra are…

  • A General Method for Analyzing Feedback Amplifiers

    Open Access•A M Davis•ARTICLE•IEEE Transactions on Education•1981

A general exact method is presented for treating feedback amplifiers. The procedure is topology independent, although it provides a simple technique for topological classification. In addition, it eliminates the necessity of calculating the loading effects of the feedback network
