  • Analyses archéométriques dans la grotte ornée Mayenne-Sciences (Thorigné-en-Charnie, Mayenne)

Open Access•Romain Pigeaud, Valérie Plagnes et al.•ARTICLE•L Anthropologie•2010

  • Cross dating (Th/U- 14 C) of calcite covering prehistoric paintings in Borneo

Open Access•Valérie Plagnes, Christiane Causse et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2003

We present the first application of cross-dating (Th/U measured by thermo-ionization mass spectrometry (TIMS) and 14 C measured by accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS)) of calcite covering prehistoric paintings. Th/U age estimates of cave drapery range from 9800 to 27,300 yr B.P. while conventional 14 C age is estimated between 9900 and 7610 yr B.P. depending on the dead carbon correction. The age discrepancy is attributed to a disturbance of Th/U…

  • Paleoclimatic record of speleothems in a tropical region

Open Access•Jacques Bertaux, Francis Sondag et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2002

  • Lake-Level Chronology on the Southern Bolivian Altiplano (18°–23°S) During Late-Glacial Time and the Early Holocene

Open Access•Florence Sylvestre, Michel Servant et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•1999

Stratigraphic analyses of outcrops, shorelines, and diatoms from the southern Bolivian Altiplano (Uyuni-Coipasa basin) reveal two major lacustrine phases during the late-glacial period and the early Holocene, based on a chronology established by radiocarbon and U/Th control. A comparison of 14 C and 230 Th/ 234 U ages shows that during times of high lake level, radiocarbon ages are valid. However, during low-water periods, 14 C ages must be corre…

  • A petrological and geochemical study of the calcareous sandstone of West African marine Pleistocene (Cap des Biches, Senegal)

Open Access•Bachir Diouf, Pierre Giresse et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•1995

  • A Comparison of Radiocarbon and U/Th Ages on Continental Carbonates

    Open Access•J-C Fontes, J N Andrews et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•1992•Cited by: 3•References: 16

Authigenic micrite from a playa in the northern Sahara has been dated by both the U/Th and 14 C methods. The U/Th ages can be a few thousand years greater or less than the 14 C ages obtained on the smallest crystals of micrite. The latter are considered to form a reasonable chronology for the Holocene deposits. The deviations of the U/Th ages are explained by quantifiable losses and gains of uranium under changing redox conditions. Under conditio…

  • The Late Pleistocene Laurentide Glacier

    Open Access•Claude Hillaire-Marcel, Claude Hillaire‐Marcel et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•1989

Direct information on the isotopic composition and timing of the now-vanished Laurentide glacier can be found in subglacial calcite or in early diagenetic concretions from glaciolacustrine deposits. Th/U isotopic measurements on early diagenetic concretions frome Lake Deschaillons varves (St. Lawrence Lowland, Québec) date the early Wisconsinan major ice advance at ca. 80,000 yr (isotopic stage 5a/4 transition). Significant retreat occurred at ca…
