    Kim Huynh•ARTICLE•Humanities Research•2024

This is a reflection on how a migrant organisation that I belong to has adopted Indigenous yarning to tell truths, share experiences and heal wounds. The Vietnamese Australian Forum (VAF) was established in 2021 by two south-western Sydney-based lawyers Tu Le and Than Nguyen. 2 For Lynore Geia, Barbara Hayes and Kim Usher, yarning is collective and dynamic: 'The stories remain in our conscious state like a thread 1

  • Dialogic Tropes

Open Access•Jane Mcquitty, Kim Huynh•ARTICLE•Cultural and Pedagogical Inquiry•2021

Calgary-based installation artist and printmaker Kim Huynh’s projects are profoundly aware of materiality and ways in which it can encourage us to jump out of the ruts and customary ways of categorizing and thinking in late Capitalism. The media that Kim Huynh adopts can range from the extraordinary to the banal, from a vast string of pearls to orange peels. This short interview with Kim Huynh investigates matters that are material and conceptual…

  • Australian Whiteness and Refugee Politics

Open Access•Kim Huynh, Siobhan Neyland•ARTICLE•Australian Journal of Politics &…•2020

This paper offers the historical context and a conceptual framework to understand how race has shaped Australia's identity, border and asylum politics. It examines how socially constructed whiteness has fostered a perceived need to exert strict and often violent control over the movement of people of colour in and around Australia. We outline the colonial foundations of Australian whiteness and how it has fostered anxiety and bigotry at Federatio…

  • Children and Global Conflict

Open Access•Kim Huynh, Bina D’costa et al.•BOOK•Children and Global Conflict•2015

Over one billion people under the age of eighteen live in territories affected by armed conflict. Despite this, scholars and practitioners often lack a comprehensive knowledge of how children both struggle within and shape conflict zones. Children and Global Conflict provides this understanding with a view to enhancing the prospects of conflict resolution and peacebuilding. This book presents key ideas and issues relating to children's experience…

  • Democracy and Vietnam

    Open Access•Kim Huynh•ARTICLE•Democratic Theory•2015

This commentary considers proceedings from the workshop, “Can the Case be Made for Asian Democratic Theory or Practice?: Local Asian Perspectives,” held in Hanoi in February 2015. Particular attention is paid to the presentations of the two presiding professors, Pham Quang Minh and John Keane, both of whom argued that the Asian democracies of the twenty-first century would and should depart from the Western liberal democratic models of the late t…

  • Children's First Names, Religiosity and Immigration Background in France

    Open Access•Man Arai, Mahmood Araï et al.•ARTICLE•International Migration•2012•Cited by: 3•References: 1

Using an index measuring the relative probability of names in different populations, our results indicate that immigrants and especially those from the Maghreb/Middle‐East give first names to their children that are different from those given by the French majority population. Though we find a correlation between religiosity and our name index for European immigrants, the differences in naming practices cannot generally be attributed to religiosi…

  • A Matching Model of the Academic Publication Market

Damien Besancenot, Kim Huynh et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Institutional and…•2011

This paper provides a dynamic analysis of the market for academic publications. Given imperfect information about journals' editorial line, authors can sometimes target a wrong journal; in turn, the editor will desk-reject their paper. An equilibrium is defined as a situation where both editors and authors implement their optimal publication strategies, given the matching technology and the prevailing surplus-sharing rule. The model can be solved…

  • Fathers, Flags, and Modern-Day Fanaticism

    Open Access•Kim Huynh•ARTICLE•Alternatives Global Local Political•2003•References: 1

When I was in my first year of school, I was given my first-ever assignment. It involved creating a poster on a nation of my choice. I remember being determined to submit an exemplary work that would confirm my status as both an artist and an intellectual among my six-year-old colleagues. As I recall, it was in pursuit of eminence and a perceived comparative advantage, rather than any genuine interest that led me to choose my country of origin, V…

  • Dette publique

Damien Besancenot, Kim Huynh et al.•ARTICLE•Revue économique•2003•Cited by: 1

  • Vietnamese Communism, 1925–1945

Open Access•Kim Huynh, Kim Khánh Huỳnh•BOOK•Vietnamese communism, 1925-1945•1986

From a cell of nine men in 1925, the Vietnamese Communists grew by December 1976 into a massive party with over 1.5 million members and the organizational and military capabilities to defeat the United States. What factors account for the outstanding success of the Indochinese Communist Party? In this book, Huynh Kim Khanh traces the Vietnamese Communist movement from its inception as a radical youth group founded by Ho Chi Minh (then Nguyen Ai Q…
