  • Reclaiming the translinguistic selves: Collective scholarly practices in translanguaging space

Jin Kyeong Jung, Soo Bin Jang et al.•ARTICLE•Applied Linguistics Review•2026

This study investigates the collaborative inquiry among Korean-English translingual scholars who utilize translanguaging spaces to foster collective agency toward decolonization. We rethink language beyond a mere communication tool, framing it instead as a dynamic process that shapes identities, ideologies, and interpersonal relationships in academia and society. By examining data from three projects – a reading group focused on Asian Critical pe…

    Open Access•J Wright, Sam Bader•ARTICLE•Qualitative Inquiry•2026

This essay presents our collective imagination of music-informed artful inquiry. Inspired by the notion that methodology can be a lifestyle choice and drawing on our experiences with collaborative music expression, we discuss three characteristics of artful thinking with/about/through music: transcendency through emotions and embodiment, connectivity for inclusivity and relationality, and resistance for reinventing decolonial beings and ethical r…

  • Reimagining accountability through educational leadership: Applying the metaphors of “ agora ” and “ bazaar ”

    Open Access•J Wright•ARTICLE•Educational Management…•2024

This study aims to explore reimagined accountability through collective efforts initiated by school leaders and to challenge the fixed notion of accountability prescribed by policy scripts. Drawing on studies highlighting humanizing leadership and the metaphors of “ agora ” and “ bazaar ,” I investigate how school leaders (re)construct and (re)define meanings of accountability in their daily practices. Using portraiture as research method, I anal…

  • Methodologizing Transnationality: Relational Writing as Collective Inquiry

    Open Access•Y Lee, Minhye Son et al.•ARTICLE•Culture Studies ↔ Critical…•2024•Cited by: 6•References: 48

How can we take transnationality as a space of in-betweenness to generate new possibilities, moving beyond geographically bounded spans between countries? This article presents five authors' collective inquiry on transnational positionalities, which we practiced through the relational, transformative, and reflective writing of the self in a community space. We staged the collaborative writing into two processes: the emergent process of thematic w…

  • The role of relevancy in native advertising on social media

Hye Jin Yoon, Yan Huang et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2023

Native advertising has grown in popularity in recent years, and advertisers continue to look for ways to increase its effectiveness. Beyond the emphases of prior research on ad disclosure and format relevancy of native advertising, the current research contributes to the literature by first testing the relationship between the native ad and social media content by varying the thematic content relevancy of the ad (irrelevant vs. relevant) and seco…

  • The Human Side of Accountability: Dilemmas of Reaching All Learners

    J Wright•ARTICLE•Harvard Educational Review•2023

This portraiture-informed study by Taeyeon Kim challenges the dominant discourse of accountability, which often focuses on high-stakes policies at the expense of relational aspects of accountability in schools. Building on working theories of accountability, humanizing leadership, and paradox theory, Kim theorizes the “human side of accountability,” where leaders simultaneously address the tensions of multiple demands and implement policy mandate…

This paper critically analyzes gap discourses in student learning, starting from the achievement gap, education debt, and opportunity gaps, applying the lens of coloniality, racial-capitalism, and modernity (CRCM). Gap discourses are the prevalent rationale behind educational policies and school reforms globally. Specifically in the United States, achievement gap discourses contribute substantially to the educational framework that minoritized st…

  • Troubling Unintended Harm of Heroic Discourses in Social Justice Leadership

Open Access•J Wright, Taeyeon Kim et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Education•2022

We aim to problematize the ways in which school leaders who seek social justice conflate heroic leadership discourses in their practices. Using qualitative data collected from an urban school principal, this study examines heroic metaphors utilized by the principal when describing social justice leadership and how heroic-centered approaches contradict with achieving social justice goals in school. The findings suggest that the principal’s idea of…

    Open Access•Hyun-Jun Joo, J Wright•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

Purpose Given the context of accountability-driven policy environments, research has shown that school leaders perceive bureaucratic rules and protocols in negative ways, but they also utilize organizational structures and routines to lead changes. To better understand both enabling and hindering mechanisms of bureaucracy in schools, this study explores how Korean school principals understand and perceive bureaucratic structures using a lens of a…

  • Toward Decolonizing Our Scholarship and Discourses: Lessons From the Special Issue on Decoloniality for EAQ

Open Access•Talgat Bainazarov, Alounso Gilzene et al.•ARTICLE•Educational Administration…•2022

Members of the Educational Administration Quarterly (EAQ) internal editorial team took a critical look at the publication record of our journal with respect to epistemological plurality over the past 10 years. Our goal was to identify international publication trends and highlight how pluralized the research frames are within EAQ. Data overwhelmingly show that EAQ is a largely U.S.-centric publication, even when the topics explored touch on criti…

Deficit approaches to educational policy reform are pervasive in the most historically marginalized communities and school districts in the United States (US). Drawing on critical policy analysis, this study examines a diseng…

The results showed the interplay between the level of CEOs’ self-disclosure on Instagram and…

  • Colonial and Early Post-Colonial Libya

    Open Access•J Wright, J L Wright•ARTICLE•Libyan Studies•1989•References: 11

Libya at the beginning of this century had little to offer the would-be imperialist and coloniser. The true value of Turkey's last remaining African possessions was not — despite the insistence of the Italian nationalist lobby — as a settler-colony or as a gateway to the largely illusory wealth of central Africa, but as a strategic base on the central Mediterranean. The general poverty of Ottoman Tripolitania and Cyrenaica was reflected indeed in…

The composition of part-mounted units is discussed in relation to barrack ac…
