Exploring Citizen Initiated Contacts and the Role of Local Councilors in Problem Resolution
In this study we investigate Citizen Initiated Contacts (CICs) as a common mode of political participation. CICs arise when citizens contact local government departments for services or to make complaints. Yet, increasingly citizens are contacting their political representatives to resolve their issues rather than local government departments. Partnerships in Health and Social Care
Since 1997 partnership working across the public sector has been a key theme of UK Government and Scottish Executive policy. Both Governments' policy approaches initially converged on this theme. However, while the UK Government has become lukewarm to the use of partnership working to deliver public services, the Scottish Executive has remained true to the partnership ethos. This article compares approaches to partnership working in health and so…
Health and Social Care Partnerships in Scotland
First paragraph: Since 1997 the development of partnership working across the public sector has been one of the key themes of UK government policy (Balloch and Taylor 2001). One area where partnership working has had a major influence has been in the field of health and social care. Whilst a diverse range of partnership mechanisms have developed between health and social care (Dowling et al 2004), equally diverse is the policy approach taken by e…
Delivering Community Care in Scotland
From Competition to Collaboration in the Delivery of Health Care
The National Health Service has yet again found itself in a period of organisational and cultural change. Having endured some six years operating within the context of a competitive market, the new Labour Government was resolved to remove the market from the NHS and replace it with a system which was based upon cooperation and collaboration. The new system, they have argued, should be based upon partnership and driven by performance. The new syst…
