Exploring multi-level governance arrangements in disaster recovery
A diagnostic framework for integrated flood risk governance
Amid escalating urban flood risks driven by climate change and poorly managed urban growth, there is growing recognition of the need to strengthen and integrate flood risk governance systems. However, existing governance arrangements in many cities remain fragmented, siloed, and inadequately inclusive. This paper addresses a critical gap in the literature by proposing and applying an Integrated Flood Risk Governance framework that systematically …
A multi-dimensional framework for assessing disaster recovery pathways
Stakeholder engagement in disaster recovery
To live or to die
There is an array of studies documenting community preparedness to flooding in towns and cities, particularly those in countries of the developing global south. However, fewer studies have investigated how cultural and social factors influence flood preparedness. In this article, we discuss the role of cultural and social attributes and how these can influence a community’s preparedness to extreme flood events, with a focus on selected urban comm…
Applying recent advances in climate adaptation research to urban heat risk management
There is unequivocal evidence that anthropogenic climate change is supercharging temperature and precipitation regimes globally. One of the clearest signals of this is seen in current and projected increases in extreme heat, understood as changes in temperature maximums, longer duration heatwaves, and higher night‐time temperatures. Extreme heat has substantial impacts on socio‐ecological systems through direct impacts on human health and labor p…
Crime statistics in a Nigerian Traditional City
The study identified predominant crime type and pattern of crime occurrence in Ile-Ife, Nigeria. The research used crime data, by type and location, from January 2005 to December 2010. The spatial distribution of crime types revealed that 68 cases (49%) of offences against individuals occurred in the core area of the city, 40 (29%) in the transition area and 31 (22%) in the suburban, while 184 (20%), 265 (30%) and 451 cases (50%) of offences agai…
