The continuing problem of ethics and the applied anthropologist is addressed in terms of the utility of a principle of self determination. It is suggested that it is no part of the business of scientists to make ethical judgments based on some ethnocentric and subjective morality and only a procedural ethic built on the understandings of anthropology has any relevance.
