  • Distribution and survival of medicinal and aromatic plants is threatened by the anticipated climate change

Open Access•Zishan Ahmad Wani, Shreekar Pant et al.•ARTICLE•Trees Forests and People•2024

Changing climatic scenarios has been recognized as a prominent threat to biodiversity globally. Given the decline in biodiversity, there are more and more local, national, and global awareness campaigns as well as legislative initiatives devoted to biodiversity conservation. The present study aims to increase our knowledge and understanding of the distribution of six medicinal and aromatic plants (MAPs) in Jammu Kashmir, India under present and f…

  • Ecosystem carbon budgeting under Swietenia macrophylla King plantation in sub humid foothills of Eastern Himalayans of India

  • Traditional homegardens and ethnomedicinal plants

Open Access•Manish Roy, Biplov Chandra Sarkar et al.•ARTICLE•Trees Forests and People•2022

Homegardens are a traditional human-made microenvironment, socioeconomically connected to people's long-term survival. In India's sub-Himalayan region, studies have been conducted on many aspects of homegardening systems. However, little has been studied on ethnomedicinal plants from this region's traditional homegardens. The current study focuses on the diversity and population status of ethnomedicinal plants in homegardens and their folk therap…

  • Diversity and structure of plant assemblages in open scrub vegetation patches of Dachigam National Park at Kashmir Himalayas

Open Access•Arif Yaqoob Malik, Davinder Pal Singh et al.•ARTICLE•Trees Forests and People•2021

Plant diversity and floristic composition of open scrub vegetation patches of Dachigam National Park, Kashmir in the Western Himalayas were assessed with an objective to develop a baseline data foundation for natural resource management plans and proper conservation strategies for the floristically rich ecosystem. The vegetation study was carried out by using standard sampling protocol of stratified random nested quadrats. The richness was observ…

  • Implementation of the Use of Ethnomedicinal Plants for Curing Diseases in the Indian Himalayas and Its Role in Sustainability of Livelihoods and Socioeconomic Development

Open Access•Munesh Kumar, Sushma Rawat et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2021

In recent times, the use of traditional herbal medicines in healthcare has declined, particularly amongst the rural population. This implies a risk of losing vital information from previous generations regarding plants and their use in traditional medicine. The objective of this study is to catalog the ways employed by inhabitants of the Garhwal Himalayas as part of their traditional approaches to healthcare. Information was gathered through snow…

  • Land use land cover change detection through geospatial analysis in an Indian Biosphere Reserve

Open Access•Tarun Kumar Thakur, Digvesh Kumar Patel et al.•ARTICLE•Trees Forests and People•2020

The present study examines the land use land cover (LULC) and change detection impacts on forest ecosystem in Achanakmaar Amarkantak Biosphere Reserve (AABR – area 626.76 km2) of Central India. Results revealed that there has been a change in AABR land use pattern from 2008 to 2018. The major changes include loss of 19.72 km2 of vegetation cover in various forest types due to increasing biotic interference and over grazing, conversion of 14.77 km…

  • Floristic composition and utilization of ethnomedicinal plant species in home gardens of the Eastern Himalaya

Open Access•Nazir A Pala, Biplov Chandra Sarkar et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Ethnobiology and…•2019•Cited by: 7•References: 49

This documented list of 260 plant species including 53 ethnomedicinal ones from the home gardens of the study area indicates that these gardens are key in maintaining diversity and source of healthcare system in agricultural dominant landscape. Documenting such ecological status and traditional applications becomes a prerequisite for developing conservation and management strategies of home gardens to be included in the mainstream conservation pr…
