Impaired Competence in an Urban Community
During the past half-century, many studies have been conducted to determine both the prevalence and incidence of mental disorders. This ecological research has demonstrated that some factors external to the individual are related to mental disorders. However, ecological studies of other types of impairments are virtually nonexistent. The Speed of Hospitalization Revisited
This paper replicates an earlier study of the determinants of the speed of admission to Pacific State Hospital. Data from both the 1960-61 and 1965-66 cohorts of applicants are compared. There was a dramatic change in the variables that differentiate admissions from nonadmissions. The degree of retardation becomes the primary consideration for admission in 1965-66 cohort in contrast to the family income which appeared to be most predictive of ear…
School Ethnic Composition, Social Contexts, and Educational Plans of Mexican-American and Anglo High School Students
College plans of Mexican-American and Anglo high school students are related by a model to the following variables: family socioeconomic status, school ethnic composition, measured intelligence, parents' aspirations, and peers'aspirations. Data have been obtained from seniors in five urban secondary schools, and path analyses are developed separately for Mexican-American and Anglo boys and girls.
