  • Disability, Religion, and Gender: Exploring Experiences of Exclusion in India Through an Intersectional Lens

    Open Access•Stephen Thompson, Brigitte Rohwerder et al.•ARTICLE•Social Inclusion•2023•Cited by: 2•References: 8

Despite the existence of national and international laws and conventions to avoid discrimination in India, exclusion due to an intersection of disability, gender, and religious identity continues, resulting in marginalisation from society. This article investigates the lived experiences of people by exploring how aspects of their identity intersect to influence their inclusion or exclusion within society. Narrative interviews were undertaken with…

  • Inheritance of Menarcheal Age A Review

Open Access•D P Mukherjee, Debabrata Mukherjee et al.•ARTICLE•The Oriental Anthropologist A…•2009

  • Inbreeding Effects on the Growth in Stature among Telaga Boys and Girls of Kharagpur, West Bengal, India

    Bidhan Kanti Das, D P Mukherjee et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropologischer Anzeiger•2007

The present study is an attempt to understand the genetical effects of inbreeding on the process of growth. The inbred and non-inbred subjects were selected on the basis of extensive pedigrees of five generations in the Telaga, an endogamous population of Kharagpur, India. Preference was given to cousins belonging to the same kindreds while selecting control sample so that environmental variation was minimized. Altogether 633 boys and 614 girls o…

  • Trends of Consanguineous Marriages in a Sunni Muslim Population of West Bengal, India

    D P Mukherjee, Debabrata Mukherjee et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropologischer Anzeiger•2007

The Muslim population of the Chaltaberia village in the district of South 24 Parganas in West Bengal is divided into several wards (paras) inhabited by people of specific surnames. The frequency of endogamous marriages within surnames is greater than randomly expected ones. An incomplete reproductive isolation is observed among the five dominant surnames. Consanguineous marriages occur more often outside the village than inside. Leaving out marri…

  • Anthropology and Clinical Importance of td Ridge-Count on Human Palms

    Open Access•D P Mukherjee, Dilip Mukherjee•ARTICLE•The Anthropologist•2006

The td ridge-count was introduced as an age-stable negative measure of the distal shift of the t-triradius on human palms. The aim of the paper is to see its variation in populations and pathological conditions. The sex difference and bilateral difference have also been examined. The genetic background of the td ridge-count and its relation to maximal atd angle has been estimated. The deviation from the negative correlation between td ridge-count…

  • Dermatopglyphs in Oculocutaneous Albinism

    Open Access•Sudip Datta Banik, D P Mukherjee et al.•ARTICLE•The Anthropologist•2006

Oculocutaneous albinism can be defined as a syndrome characterised by inherited lack of pigmentation in skin, hair and eyes, along with weak visual acuity, nystagmus, photophobia and other health complications. 13 individuals were identified to be affected with OCA in 9 families from the population of Kolkata and Howrah cities. The dermatoglyphic patterns of the patients were compared with their near relatives who were obligate and doubtful heter…

  • Inbreeding Effects on Fingerprint Pattern Among Qureshi Muslims and Other Indian Populations

Open Access•D P Mukherjee, Debasri Mukherjee et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Human Ecology•1996

The present comparative analysis is based on fingerprint data of different populations from different parts of India. Fingerprints in case of present Qureshi (Muslim) males and females indicate the trend of an increase of whorls and arches in the offspring of consanguineous marriage. But the difference is significant only in cases of individuals with higher inbreeding coefficients (F ≥ 0.0625). The increase of the frequencies of whorls and redial…

  • Birth order effects on dermatoglyphs on fingers, palms, toes, and soles

Open Access•D P Mukherjee, Debasri Mukherjee•ARTICLE•American Journal of Human Biology•1990

Coefficients of correlation of 47 dermatoglyphic traits with birth order vary widely in a sample of 145 sibships of a Bengali speaking population. In general, ridge‐counts and pattern intensities tend to decrease with birth order. Linear effects of birth order are, however, significant in samples of two sexes only for ridge‐counts on the ab regions of palms and on toes, and in males only for triradial number on toes, D‐line exit, hallucal ridge‐c…

  • Ontogenic interrelationships of haemoglobin level with breathing rate, pulse rate, skinfold thickness and body dimensions

  • ABO blood groups and ABH saliva secretion in Reddis and Kammas Of Southern Andhra Pradesh

    Open Access•J M Naidu, P Veerraju et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•1978•Cited by: 2•References: 2

ABO blood groups and ABH saliva secretion were investigated in two caste populations, Reddis and Kammas of Southern Andhra Pradesh, and compared with the data of other populations. In ABO gene frequencies, the present series of Reddis and Kammas approach the values from other Andhra caste data. Moderate gene frequency of non‐secretor gene in both Reddis and Kammas are noted

  • Genetic distances among the Ho tribe and other groups of Central Indians

    Open Access•Narendra Kumar, D P Mukherjee et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•1975•References: 4

The Ho, a settled tribal group of Chota Nagpur, India, were tested for five genetic characters. Genetic distance among eleven tribal groups of Bihar, Orissa and Madhya Pradesh are calculated according to Edwards ('71). Affinities of these tribes are discussed taking into consideration the languages spoken by them. These breeding groups may have drifted apart along the paths of their dialect differentiations. Cultural and geographical factors furt…
