Enterprise Architecture in Smart Cities
The concept of Enterprise Architecture is suitable for managing the complexity of heterogeneous systems and technologies in Smart Cities. However, many cities and their urban governance processes still face the challenges of digitalizing public services. This paper aims to assess the applicability of TOGAF in a real-world Smart City following a case study method. A novel research agenda with ten major directions is provided as a result of the pra…
The Graphical Presentation of a Collection of Means

Midway 1942
Osprey's Campaign title for one of the most important naval battles in the history of World War II (1939-1945), Midway, which was fought barely six months after the devastating Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. The badly damaged USS Yorktown was repaired in just 48 hours and with Enterprise and Hornet set out to meet the Japanese. In a battle marked by great heroism on both sides the United States dealt a devastating blow to the Imperial Japanese …
A serial study of normal facial asymmetry in monozygotic twins
Asymmetry of the soft tissues of the face was measured by comparing three pairs of bilateral facial parameters connecting the landmarks external canthus, tip of nose and angle of mouth. The subjects were six pairs of monozygotic twins (eight girls and four boys) in the age range 8-19 years. A clinical contour mapping technique known as short-base stereophotogrammetry provided life-size facial maps on which the parameters were measured in three di…
Reference values and standards for paired organs
When estimating reference values for measurements on paired organs, the standard deviation for a single measurement can be obtained to a good approximation simply by ignoring the pairing. In practice, however, there are advantages in the use of conventional standards for pair means and differences
Normalizing transformations for growth standards
Age-specific distributions of growth measurements, either distances or velocities, can be normalized in various ways. This paper studies the polynomial method of Healy, Rasbash and Yang (1988), Cole's (1988) power transformation and the logarithmic transformation with adjustable start. The methods are used to fit the centiles for boys' weight and for boys' height velocity from Tanner, Whitehouse and Takaishi (1966). The power and logarithmic tran…
Ethical Practices of Licensed Professional Counselors
This article presents a survey of ethical complaints reported to state boards, discusses ameliorating problem areas, and makes suggestions regarding collecting data about ethical complaints
Electronic banking in Europe
Data management for growth studies
This paper outlines the requirements for a computerized data management package designed specifically to handle growth data. Features include: screen design for data entry, data checking on distances and velocities, extraction of selected subsets of records or variables
Distribution-free estimation of age-related centiles
A method is described for calculating age-related centiles which makes no assumption about the nature of the distribution of the measurement at a fixed age
Ethical Practices of Licensed Professional Counselors
The authors report results of a survey, conducted in 1986 by the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (ACES) Ethics/Professional Practices Interest Network, of licensing boards in the 10 states that had enacted professional counselor licensure laws by the end of 1984. Data are reported regarding the number of counselors licensed in each state, the nature and extent of ethical violations claimed, dispositions of the complaints by th…

Regression to the mean
The notion of “regression to the mean” is widely misunderstood. This paper explains the concept in simple terms and shows how it arises in studies of mental and physical development
Diurnal variation in stature and sitting height in 12–14-year-old boys
1. Measurements of stature and sitting height were made at 0930 and 1400 h on 19 boys aged 12-14 years with the "stretching upward" technique. 11 different boys were similarly measured at 1000 and 1700 h. 2. The average decrease in stature from 0930 to 1400 h was 2.0 mm and from 1000 to 1700 h was 4.6 mm. The corresponding values for sitting height were 2.0 mm and 2.8 mm. 3. No strong evidence for individual differences in diurnal change was foun…
Notes on the statistics of growth standards
The problems of constructing population standards for measurements such as height and age points such as menarche are discussed. Extreme centiles, such as the 3rd, estimated from a Gaussian distribution have a considerable imprecision, the amount of which is detailed. Non-parametric estimation, as usually used for weight, is compared with transformation to Gaussianity and thence parametric estimation. Regression standards are discussed, whereby t…
Canonical analysis of facial variation
Although the face is one of the most variable parts of the human physique, there is little recent work on this region. Consequently, there is a need for an appraisal of the variation, new thinking as regards the methodology of recording and analysis, and further thought as to the possible applications of such methods. The present exploratory study uses information derived from standardized photographs, to try to elucidate the affinities—and thus …
