  • A record of Late Pleistocene environmental conditions at the transition from central to southern Europe from the Baix loess paleosol sequence (Rhône Rift Valley, SE France)

Open Access•Nora Pfaffner, Annette Kadereit et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2026

Loess–paleosol sequences (LPSs) provide valuable archives of Quaternary paleoenvironments. Here we present new data from the Baix LPS, comprising the entire Late Pleistocene. The Baix LPS is located at the western edge of the Rhône Rift Valley, France, in the transition zone from the presently temperate to the Mediterranean region of Europe. This LPS provides a missing link between the analyzed LPSs in the presently temperate regions farther nort…

  • Dating methods and geomorphic evidence of palaeoenvironmental changes at the eastern margin of the South Peruvian coastal desert (14°30′S) before and during the Little Ice Age

Open Access•Ingmar Unkel, Annette Kadereit et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2007

  • Geoarchaeological Evidence From Desert Loess in the Nazca–palpa Region, Southern Peru

Open Access•Bernhard Eitel, Stefan Hecht et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•2005•Cited by: 15•References: 23

The paper presents proxies from an interdisciplinary geoarchaeological working group. Sediment analyses and geomorphological studies, radiocarbon ages of snail shells and luminescence dating of loess allow a preliminary chronology of the environmental evolution of the eastern Atacama desert, Nazca–Palpa region (southern Peru). Until now, typical desert loess was unknown from the arid western flank of the Andes (southern Peru). The loess points to…

  • Centennial-scale late-Pleistocene to mid-Holocene synthetic profile of the Medjerda Valley, northern Tunisia

    Open Access•Christoph Zielhofer, Dominik Faust et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2004•Cited by: 2•References: 8

During the late Pleistocene to mid-Holocene, the Medjerda river system in Mediterranean Tunisia shows events of increased flooding and aggradation of relatively coarse overbank deposits. Geomorphic activity in river systems within this region correlate with aridification of the climate, but not with temperature. The late-Pleistocene to mid-Holocene synthetic profile of the Ghardimaou floodplain (mid-Medjerda river) indicates fluvial activity from…

  • Optical Dating of Anthropogenic Sediments at the Archaeological Site of Herrenbrunnenbuckel, Bretten‐bauerbach (Germany)

Open Access•Andreas Lang, Annette Kadereit et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•1999•Cited by: 2•References: 18

Optical dating was applied to natural and anthropogenic silts at an Iron Age settlement in southern Germany. The natural sediments were dated accurately and allowed study of the human impact on the landscape. The studied anthropogenic sediments were infills of cellars and ditches. Again, deposits derived from soil erosion proved to be datable using infrared‐optically stimulated luminescence. However, optical dating of fine grained sediments was a…
