  • Do Professionalism Lapses in Medical School Predict Problems in Residency and Clinical Practice

Edward Krupat, Jules L Dienstag et al.•ARTICLE•Academic Medicine•2020

PURPOSE: Recognizing that physicians must exhibit high levels of professionalism, researchers have attempted to identify the precursors of clinicians' professionalism difficulties, typically using retrospective designs that trace sanctioned physicians back to medical school. • Encounters with Danger: Social Workers in the Ghetto

Open Access•J E Mayer, Aaron Rosenblatt•ARTICLE•Sociology of Work and Occupations•1975

But this mission cannot be accomplished unless service workers are willing to enter ghetto areas and to incur risks to their physical safety. This paper describes some of the sociopsychological and structural influences which induced and later enabled a group of social workers to expose themselves to physical harm. On a more general level, it bears …

  • The recidivism of mental patients: A review of past studies

    Aaron Rosenblatt, J E Mayer•ARTICLE•American Journal of Orthopsychiatry•1974

A review of studies on readmission of patients to mental hospitals uncovered only one variable that consistently predicted the rehospitalization of mental patients: the number of previous admissions. It is suggested that the tendency of the psychiatric profession to search for a determinant of rehospitalization in diagnostic and psychopathological terms results in too narrow a focus, and that social processes contribute in large measure to patien…

  • Clash in perspective between mental patients and staff

    J E Mayer, Aaron Rosenblatt•ARTICLE•American Journal of Orthopsychiatry•1974•References: 10

The opinions of mental patients traditionally have been ignored by mental health researchers, although they are most relevant if patient care is to be improved. A comparison of patient and staff opinion reveals that patients have a more positive view of the hospital, and disagree with staff in their conceptions of what makes patients “get better.”
