This article reports the findings of a study examining the effects of the presence of pets in an office on people's perceptions of the work environment, the company, and the people who work there. The present study examined the effects of the presence of a pet in a professor's office on college students' perceptions of the office and the professor. Students (n=257) were randomly assigned to view a slide of an office that contained either a dog, a cat, or no animal. Effects of Picture and Even-a-Penny-Will-Help Appeals on Anonymous Donations to Charity
The present research explored the effectiveness of a picture and the phrase "even a penny will help" on contributions to charity. Two experiments were conducted, one in the laboratory and one in the field. In both experiments the manipulation of a pleasant picture and the phrase created four types of signs: (1) picture-no phrase, (2) phrase-no picture, (3) picture-phrase, and (4) no picture-no phrase. Students' Views of the Characteristics of Instructors' Approachability
The present study explored college students' perceptions of what makes an instructor approachable. 82 female and 22 male undergraduate students were asked to list characteristics of an instructor that would make it more likely and less likely for that student to seek help from an instructor outside of class. Personality Characteristics of Dog and Cat Persons
The present study explored personality differences between dog persons and cat persons. Participants (n=126) identified themselves as either a dog person, cat person, both or neither, and rated their own masculinity, femininity, independence, dominance and athleticism.
