Validation and convergence of the LID scale
This study validates the Leadership Integral Development (LID) scale as a virtue-based measure of leadership education grounded in an Aristotelian-Thomistic framework. Using data from 2,927 university students in Spain and Mexico, we examined the psychometric properties of the original LID-45 and its abbreviated LID-12. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses supported a coherent three-domain structure—cognitive, relational, and performative…

Understanding Human Disability Through the Servant of Yahweh
The Fourth Song of the “Servant of Yahweh” from the Book of the prophet Isaiah (Is 52:13–53:12) shed light that enlightens those who suffer from disability. The Servant of Yahweh serves as a prefiguration of those who endure innocent suffering, particularly those with disabilities. Through their suffering, God communicates a message, revealing them as bearers of a sign of God’s presence and even of salvation for those who know how to welcome them…
A virtue-based measurement of integral formation. The questionnaire of competencies and cardinal virtues (QCV)
Integral Formation is understood as the whole person education of all dimensions and capacities necessary for an individual to attain wholeness and personal fulfillment. This study presents the Integral Formation Questionnaire (QCV), which assesses integral formation through the lens of the four cardinal virtues—prudence, justice, fortitude, and temperance—and their associated competencies. Rooted in Aristotelian-Thomistic philosophy, the framewo…
The Effects of a Teacher Training Program on Students’ Perceptions of the Teaching–Learning Process
The aim of this article is to identify the effectiveness of a teacher education program based on student perceptions. In this aim, a longitudinal research project was carried out with a sample of 14,229 students at a Spanish university who evaluated their teachers (using a Likert-type scale) after they completed a teacher training program. The CEDA teacher evaluation scale (α = 0.968; ω = 0.968) was used to assess students’ perceptions of the ins…

A virtue-based measurement of leadership education
This article presents the validation of a virtue-based leadership development questionnaire (LID). Leadership is defined as the human action of guiding others toward a common good, which requires the exercise of personal competencies and virtues. The theoretical and factorial structure of LID has three domains: intellectual, relational and performative. The LID was administered to a sample of 1759 university students from Mexico and Spain for fac…
Paradigms of leadership
Latin America is increasingly contributing to scientific research on leadership, although less than other regions. What are the predominant paradigms on leadership within the scientific community in Mexico? The article reviews doctoral dissertations on leadership from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and the Anahuac University of Mexico (UA) defended before 2021. The findings highlight that 1) the number of doctoral dissertatio…
A virtue-based model of leadership education
This article presents a theoretical justification and a proposal that seeks to educate university students in leadership through virtues and personal competencies. A distinction is offered between virtues and competencies without opposing them. Subsequently, a leadership education model based on virtues and personal competencies is offered. This proposal applies the Aristotelian-Thomistic tradition of education in virtues considering the contribu…
Virtues and values education in schools
There is a deficit in character education research in Latin America and a lack of clarity about conceptual issues relevant to values and virtues. This lack of conceptual clarity has practical importance. The research sought to investigate empirically how school managers and teachers understand and practice character education, with particular attention to the distinction between educating values and virtues. The study was carried out during the f…
Mentoring impact on the transversal competence’s development. An experience of educational accompaniment in the integral formation of the university student
Introduction The adaptation of universities to the new guidelines set by the European Higher Education Area implies relevant changes. Among them, a teaching model more focused on the student and his or her learning than on the teacher and the subject, new active teaching-learning methodologies and the development of competences through the acquisition of learning outcomes; all with the aim of contributing to the integral formation of the universi…
Vulnerability, Perfection and Christian Education
The reflections in this article answer two related questions. First, is perfection compatible with the “imperfection” of being vulnerable? Second, what role does vulnerability play in the Christian educational paradigm? To address these questions, the concept of vulnerability will be discussed. Then the concept of perfection will be discussed, from the perspective of Christian theology. Lastly, brush strokes of a Christian educational proposal wil…
The effect of teacher leadership on students’ purposeful learning
Teaching leadership is a key factor for students’ learning and flourishing, and it occurs in an asymmetrical and interpersonal relationship. This research seeks to characterize the teaching leadership of high school teachers through the influence they exert on their students. It is not based on the teacher’s self-perception but on the experience that the students have had. For this purpose, a qualitative study was carried out in Spain with 200 fi…
Theoretical and methodological foundation of a self-perception scale on personal competencies and the cardinal virtues. An exploratory and pilot study
The cardinal virtues (prudence, justice, fortitude, and temperance) have relevance within the areas of character education and integral or comprehensive formation. In recent years, there has been growing interest and a great deal of literature produced on character education and its measurement. In this paper, we propose a questionnaire (a Likert-type self-report scale of 22 items), the QCV, designed to measure competencies associated with the ca…
Vulnerability and perfection
J. H. Newman, canonized in October 2019, is remembered as a prominent cleric of the Anglican Church who converted to Catholicism at the peak of his career. Many are acquainted with his Idea of a University and his theological insights. However, a detailed look at his life reveals another facet: a profoundly human man. Newman’s writings portray his liability to suffering and how he embraced it in his relationships with God, others and the institut…
