Phytoremediation Potential of Cynodon dactylon and Cenchrus ciliaris for Nickel‐Contaminated Soils
Increasing exposure of trace metals causes deleterious effects in plants and land fertility; therefore, appropriate monitoring and remediation strategies are crucial to protect the environment. Salt‐tolerant native plants such as Cynodon dactylon (L.) Pers. and Cenchrus ciliaris L. can exhibit optimum resistance against excessive nickel levels, but their physiology remains under‐investigated. In this study, three ecotypes of both species (i.e., S…
Exploring the traditional knowledge and medicinal flora of the communities residing along North Eastern India-Pakistan borders
Background: Ethnobotanical studies underpin the understanding of plant-people interaction in any geographical area along with the conservation strategies and priorities. The current study was carried out in the marginalized communities residing along the North Eastern Indo-Pak border of Depalpur and its adjoining areas of the Punjab Province, Pakistan. Methods: Snow-ball and random sampling techniques were employed for study participants. They we…
Ethnobotanical studies of fodder grass resources for ruminant animals, based on the traditional knowledge of indigenous communities in Central Punjab Pakistan
The results have reinforced the value of conserving ethnobotanical knowledge, being poorly documented previously, in developing strategies to feed livestock. It indicated the preferred fodder grasses as well as the possible reasons of their preference. The reported data need to be validated for nutritional and health benefits. This information could help the smallholder farmers in association with regional governments to propagate suitable fodder…
