Discussion Note on Hasok Chang: Realism for Realistic People
We first discuss Chang’s criticism of the correspondence theory of truth and of what he calls ‘correspondence realism’. We think that correspondence can be rescued if properly reshaped. We then take up Chang’s alternative to the correspondence theory of truth, his ‘truth-by-operational-coherence’, which we think does not fit many truths from social life. The Interrelations between the Philosophy, History and Sociology of Science in Thomas Kuhn‘s Theory of Scientific Development
The paper deals with the interrelations between the philosophy, sociology and historiography of science in Thomas Kuhn’s theory of scientific development. First, the historiography of science provides the basis for both the philosophy and sociology of science in the sense that the fundamental questions of both disciplines depend on the principles of the form of historiography employed. Second, the fusion of the sociology and philosophy of science…
