A Marriage Premium for Whom? Sexual Identity, Relationship Status and Earnings
Objective This article aims to understand how relationship status is associated with earnings among LGB people. Background Previous research has found that marriage is related to higher earnings for men and lower earnings for women, but has not often considered whether this holds across different sexual identities. Method We use the longitudinal Understanding Society data from the UK to show how the earnings of LGB individuals are associated with…
Their opinion counts as far as you let it’- understanding queer migration in Minas Gerais, Brazil
The literature regarding the life course and queer migration has shown that many gay men and lesbians seek large cities to live their lives away from the prying eyes of their families and build their sexual identity. In the global south, little is known about the effects that sexuality can have on the migratory trajectories of individuals. In that sense, what happens to the lives of those that have never left their hometowns and have had to find …

Therefore, this article aims to map what has been studied and learned so far in demographic research regarding internal migration of sexual minorities. A second objective is to use the development of studies on sexuality and migration in Brazil as…
From urban to highly urban: Internal migration patterns of sexual minorities in Brazil
This paper analyzes the migration patterns of gay men and lesbians in Brazil and seeks to show if they differ from those of heterosexuals. The common understanding is that gay men and lesbians are concentrated in more developed parts of the country especially in major cities. However, in this study, I show that gay men and lesbians migrate mostly to medium‐sized cities, as do heterosexuals following the internal migration patterns in recent decad…
Same‐sex marriage and neighbourhood landscape overlap—A revised understanding of the spatial distribution of gay men and lesbians
Obstacles to family formation have been removed in many countries outside of the Anglophone world for quite some time. Conventional knowledge suggests that this phenomenon should make gay men and lesbians more similar to the general population. In this study, however, we show that differences linger. By classifying Swedish neighbourhoods into multiscalar neighbourhood landscapes, we show that same‐sex married individuals differ from both married …
