  • Customer Engagement

Shiri D Vivek, Sharon E Beatty et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Marketing Theory and…•2012

Using qualitative studies involving executives and customers, this study explores the nature and scope of customer engagement (CE), which is a vital component of relationship marketing. We define CE as the intensity of an individual's participation in and connection with an organization's offerings and/or organizational activities, which either the customer or the organization initiate. We argue that it is composed of cognitive, emotional, behavi…

  • Development and Validation of the Impulse Buying Tendency Scale

    Open Access•Seungoog Weun, Michael A Jones et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1998

Previous research suggests that individuals vary in their proclivity to purchase products on impulse. This paper presents the results of four studies (Study 1, n = 212; Study 2, n = 152; Study 3, n = 124; and Study 4, n = 550) designed to develop and validate the Impulse Buying Tendency Scale. Data from the first three studies indicate that the scale is unidimensional and internally consistent. The third study provides evidence supporting converg…

  • Adolescent Influence in Family Decision Making

Sharon E Beatty, Salil Talpade•ARTICLE•Journal of Consumer Research•1994•Citada por: 23

In this article, we replicate and extend several elements of E. Foxman, P. Tansuhaj, and K. Ekstrom's 1989 study of adolescent influence, while providing an integrative model of teenager influence and a new scale of perceived relative influence. Further, we examine the effect of parental employment status on teens' influence, as well as gender-based differences in perceptions. Motivational aspects, including product importance and usage, provided…

  • A Cross-National Study of Leisure Activities

    Open Access•Sharon E Beatty, Jung-Ok Jeon et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Cross-Cultural…•1994•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 7

The primary goal of this paper is to extend leisure research efforts into the cross-national arena. Five leisure dimensions, drawn from the literature, were operationajized with a set of leisure choice activities. Students and one of their parents in four countries responded to questions about their levels of participation in these activities. Comparing and assessing factor structures across countries, three of the five dimensions were found to b…

  • External Search Effort

    Sharon E Beatty, Scott M Smith•ARTICLE•Journal of Consumer Research•1987•Citada por: 47

Utilizing an involvement perspective and Punj and Stewart's (1983) interaction framework of decision making, the relationship between external search effort and a number of motivating antecedent variables is investigated and evaluated across five related consumer electronic products. The findings confirm four of five hypothesized relationships between total search effort and the following variables: purchase involvement (+), attitudes toward shop…

  • Price Expectation and Price Recall Error

    James G Helgeson, Sharon E Beatty•ARTICLE•Journal of Consumer Research•1987•Citada por: 3

Expectations are known to affect the encoding and recall of stimuli. In this study the impact of deviations from price expectation (reference price) on price recall error is assessed. We found that an assimilation pattern most adequately represents the relationship between deviation from price expectation and price recall error. When individuals err in price recall they err in the direction of their price expectation, i.e., an expectation effect.…

  • Alternative Measurement Approaches to Consumer Values

    Open Access•Lynn R Kahle, Sharon E Beatty et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Consumer Research•1986•Citada por: 28

This article compares and contrasts two methods of measuring consumer values: the List of Values (LOV) and Values and Life Style (VALS). LOV apparently has some advantages: it is in the public domain and it relates more closely to consumer behavior
