    Colleen Bell, N A Lange et al.•ARTICLE•International Peacekeeping•2024•References: 11

This paper presents findings from interview research with Canadian police officers deployed to the UN peacekeeping missions in Haiti between 2004 and 2017. • Heterodox Economics, Social Ethics, and Inequalities

    Open Access•Christina Mcrorie, Christina G Mcrorie•ARTICLE•Journal of Religious Ethics•2019

Research in the cognitive sciences indicates that metaphors significantly shape perceptions and approaches to problem solving. With this in mind, this essay argues that it is problematic for ethicists that mainstream economics and other social scientific literature relies on naturalistic metaphors to describe markets. Recent work in behavioral economics and psychology provides valuable resources for religious ethicists. This book discussion examines contributions by Cass Sunstein, Daniel Kahneman, George Akerlof and Rachel Kranton, Uri Gneezy and John A. List, and Douglas Hough. This literature raises important questions about ethical decision‐making, moral agency and responsibility, and the ethics of life in global capitalism. It also opens up promising areas…

This article surveys recent trends in scholarship on capitalism within the fields of history, cultural sociology, and religious studies, highlighting the ways that scholars working in each of these disciplines have shifted their methodological and substantive approaches so as to foreground the cultural and moral, rather than technical, aspects of economic life. In light of our current moment of cultural reflection upon the character and future of…

  • A dam S mith, Ethicist

    Open Access•Christina Mcrorie, Christina G Mcrorie•ARTICLE•Journal of Religious Ethics•2015

This essay argues that A dam S mith's political economy is premised upon a moral anthropology, and that greater attention to S mith from religious ethicists may both improve S mith scholarship and deepen dialogue on economic themes within the field of religious ethics. It does so first by surveying common readings of S mith and noting that engagement of his work within religious ethics and theology tends to rely on misconceptions prevalent in the…
