  • Do You See What I See? Examining College Internships From Both the Intern and Supervisor Perspectives

Open Access•Celine Kristoff, Stephen C Hill et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Experiential Education•2025

Background: The mentoring and leader–member exchange (LMX) literature suggests that the relationship formed between interns and their supervisors contributes to interns’ career development. Although interns and their supervisors evaluate their relationship quality differently, the quality of intern–supervisor relationship is often evaluated only by interns in the literature. Purpose: This study examined college intern-supervisor relationships fro…

The two studies presented describe the revision process that led to the development of the Awareness of Privilege and Oppression Scale-2 (APOS-2) and efforts to evaluate the new measure's reliability and construct validity. In Study 1, a 26-item measure was developed from data gathered from a sample of 484 undergraduate students. An exploratory factor analysis suggested a four-factor solution made up of awareness of racism, sexism, heterosexism, …

  • Relational mechanisms in the goal pursuit process

    Open Access•Jonathan S Gore, Raven Hester et al.•ARTICLE•Personal Relationships•2018•Cited by: 2•References: 60

Four studies tested a model for goal pursuit, which proposed three relational mechanisms that yield motives for a goal. These motives, in turn, predict goal outcomes, but the association was expected to be stronger among women than among men. Study 1 (n = 116) tested the model for a short-term, collaborative project between strangers; Study 2 (n = 186) examined parents being motivated by their children to be healthier; Study 3 (n = 124) examined …

  • The Voices of Kentucky Employers

    Meredith Wells-Lepley, Jennifer E Swanberg et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Intergenerational…•2013•Cited by: 1•References: 13

This study explored Kentucky employers’ preparedness for the aging workforce using focus groups and a survey. Although employers perceived many benefits of older workers, five key challenges of an aging workforce emerged: institutional knowledge loss, older workers’ dependent care commitments, health and safety problems, generation gaps, and lack of technical skills. The results also suggested potential solutions and organizational practices to a…

  • Profiles of mature job seekers

Open Access•Yoshie Nakai, Boin Chang et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Organizational Behavior•2010•Cited by: 7•References: 4

The number of mature job seekers actively pursuing employment is increasing, and it is critical to recognize the variety of needs and desires they want from employment. We hypothesized that mature job seekers would be grouped into meaningful clusters based on their desires for work and that these groups would differ regarding the work features they were looking for in a new job. Using survey data from a sample of 173 mature job seekers over age f…
