Attachment, Internalized Homonegativity, and Depressive Symptoms in Chilean Gay, Lesbian, and Bisexual Emerging Adults
Emerging adulthood represents a period of life characterized by a high prevalence of mental health problems, including depressive symptoms. This is especially evident among sexual minority individuals who continue to face discrimination despite increasing societal acceptance. Attachment insecurity, which has been widely recognized as a vulnerability factor for mental health problems, may play a key role in how sexual minority individuals experien…
Measurement Invariance of the Spanish Brief Experiences in Close Relationships Scale ( SB ‐ ECR ) for Assessing Adult Attachment Among Cisgender and Gender Diverse Emerging Adults
Despite the centrality of attachment theory in understanding close relationships, transgender and gender‐diverse individuals have been largely underrepresented in attachment research. This underrepresentation raises questions about the applicability of established measurement tools to gender‐diverse populations, particularly during emerging adulthood, a period marked by the reorganization of attachment bonds. The Experiences in Close Relationship…
Adaptation and Validation of the LGBTQIA+ Minority Stress Measure in Spanish Adults
Lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, intersex, asexual, and other sexual and gender minorities (LGBTQIA+) face daily stress related to stigma, prejudice, and discrimination, which can negatively impact their mental health. Consequently, having a valid and reliable instrument to assess this experience is essential. This study aimed to adapt and validate the Spanish version of the LGBTQIA+ Minority Stress Measure, originally developed in English f…
Configuration of sex-gender identities in Chilean non-binary people: The role of cultural context and resistances to dominant narratives
Identity development is a process of negotiation between one’s own subjectivity and cultural mandates and of internalisation dominant narratives in personal life stories. Minority groups create alternative narratives that challenge dominant ones to legitimise their experiences and provide an alternative pathway for self-definition. The prominence of cultural narratives within the discourse of non-binary people and its implications for identity de…

Trends in psychosocial research on LGBTIQ+ populations in Latin America: Findings, challenges, and concerns
Psychosocial research on lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, and queer (LGBTIQ+) populations from Latin America is relatively recent. Initially, research focused mainly on prejudice, using qualitative techniques. Studies on LGBTIQ+ populations, using more sophisticated psychosocial theories such as those of Herek or Meyer, began in the mid‐1990s. This study deals with surveys and scales based on non‐probabilistic samples, LGBTIQ+ popul…

Y, este doble movimiento no puede ser relatado en tercera persona: es el sujeto investigador en primera …

Inspired by a narrative-dialogic theory of gender/sex identity development and applying methodological tools from dialogic and language-based mental health research, a novel strategy…
The negative effects of internalized homonegativity on sexual satisfaction: Dyadic effects and gender-based differences in Chile
Heterosexism is not only expressed through sexual prejudice as an external stressor, but also as an internalized rejection toward one's own (and others') sexually diverse identity. That is, lesbian women and gay men themselves internalize negative societal attitudes toward their sexual orientation and identity-a phenomenon called internalized homonegativity. A wealth of research shows that internalized homonegativity negatively affects the health…

The Minority Stress Model has proposed that connectedness to a specific minority community may be a protective factor for stigmatized groups. This study evaluated the mediational role of connectedness with the gay men's and lesbian women's community on the relationship between two minority stressors (internalized homophobia and perceived sexual stigma) with anxiety-depressive symptomatology and life satisfaction. The sample consisted of 467 Chile…

Dyadic Invariance of the Positive Sexuality Scale in Chilean Heterosexual Couples
Gender differences in sexuality-related dimensions have long been investigated in close relationship research. An important assumption when comparing values across gender in dyadic research is that both partners conceptualize the construct under investigation in the same way. Thus, issues of measurement invariance should be considered when working with dyadic data. The aim of the present study was to test the dyadic invariance of the Positive Sex…

Police violence: Sexual political dehumanisation strategies used by Chilean gendered institutions
In Chile, the ‘social outbreak' that began on 18th October 2019, closely questioned the transitional processes of the last 30 years. In the context of a neoliberal society crisis, political mobilisation could problematise the country's democratic statute. One of the phenomena most worrisome to observe was the confirmation of a police vocation which, far from banning human rights violations, exerted cruel and systematic violence against social mob…

System justification theory posits that perceiving society as fair and legitimate provides palliative benefits to people who endorse such beliefs. Despite mixed evidence among socially disadvantaged groups, recent evidence shows that members of disadvantaged groups minimize perceptions of discrimination in order to reap palliative benefits. We tested this hypothesis in a sample of gay men and lesbians in Chile ( N = 467). Specifically, we examine…
