  • Making the case for gardens: Estimating the contribution of urban gardens to habitat provision and connectivity based on hedgehogs (Erinaceus europaeus)

Open Access•Mario App, Michael W Strohbach et al.•ARTICLE•Landscape and Urban Planning•2022

  • Confluence and Implications of Cats, Coyotes, and Other Mesopredators at a Feral Cat Feeding Station

    Open Access•Numi Mitchell, Numi C Mitchell et al.•ARTICLE•Society and Animals•2022•References: 2

Trap-neuter-return ( TNR ) is promoted as a “humane” alternative to lethal methods for population control of feral domestic cats ( Felis catus ). This paper explores feedbacks between feral domestic cats, coyotes ( Canis latrans ), raccoons ( Procyon lotor ), and skunks ( Mephitis mephitis ) at a TNR feral cat colony in Rhode Island, USA. A total of 12,272 photographs from a motion-activated camera were analyzed. Cat population size and visitatio…

  • Birds and the City: Urban Biodiversity, Land Use, and Socioeconomics

    Open Access•Michael W Strohbach, Dwight Haase et al.•ARTICLE•Conservation Ecology•2009•Cited by: 2

We examined bird diversity in relation to land use and socioeconomic indicators in Leipzig, Germany. We used neighborhood diversity (ND) and bivariate correlation to show that the potential to experience biodiversity in a city is associated with population density, household income, unemployment, and urban green space. People living in urban districts with high socioeconomic status experience the highest species richness around their homes, where…
