Lived Experiences of Skilled Indian Women Immigrants (Siwi) Navigating the Covid-19 Pandemic
Negotiating precarity
Mobilizing to support those most in need
Diasporic communities, and in particular ethnic-specific associations, are known for offering invaluable support to immigrants. This support may range from the practical (connecting people with jobs and housing), to the emotional (helping people to adapt to their new environment) to the spiritual (providing people with opportunities to practice their faith). Rural futures? Mapping newcomers' hopes about potential resettlement in Canadian rural areas

These initiatives attempt to mitigate socio‐economic impacts of population decline, and address barriers to successful integration in urban areas. Drawing on the geographies of hope, this paper examines how newcomers navigate hopes as they imagine rural resettlement in Ontario. Based on focus…
Navigating the quality-of-life impacts of a chronic inflammatory disease (CID) among South Asian children and parents
Health Care Use and Barriers to Care for Chronic Inflammatory Diseases (CID) among First and Second Generation South Asian Immigrant Children and Parents in Ontario Canada

This study aims to investigate CID health care use and barriers to care among first- and second-generation immigrant …
Navigating Uncertainties
Canada has a proactive immigration policy that invites individuals, mostly highly skilled ones, from around the world to make it their new home. The pandemic border closures severely affected the flow of immigrants from other countries, so the Canadian government turned to the temporary migrants who were already in the country and facilitated their transition to permanent status. Reviewing the relevant policy documents and analysing 22 semi-struc…
Mobile Brains and The Question of 'Deskilling
Based on two ethnographic studies on the experiences of high-skilled migrants in Denmark, we argue that it is problematic to presume a simple correlation between 'deskilling' and what is often regarded as low-status jobs. We claim that many of these migrants are, albeit discreetly, actively gaining new skills and knowledge through low-status jobs not related to their qualifications and/or utilising their existing knowledge and skills in their eve…
