  • The Adoration of the Magi by Artemisia Gentileschi analyzed with multispectral imaging and XRF technique

    Open Access•Elvira Scialla, J Brocchieri et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science…•2024•References: 1

The results of non-invasive diagnostic analyses of the painting Adoration of the Magi by Artemisia Gentileschi are presented. It was created in the 1630s to decorate the choir of the Cathedral of San Procolo in Pozzuoli (Naples, Italy). Multispectral imaging at different wavelengths (VIS, IR and UV) and X-ray fluorescence (XRF) were used. The data were integrated and compared with the art historical literature on Artemisia’s activity, especially …

  • Study of ‘Cona degli Ordini’ by Colantonio with IR and XRF Analyses

Open Access•Elvira Scialla, Paola Improda et al.•ARTICLE•Heritage•2023•Cited by: 1•References: 3

Two paintings by the Neapolitan Renaissance painter Colantonio were studied with two non-invasive techniques to enrich the technical–scientific documentation. Infrared reflectography (IR) and x-ray fluorescence (XRF) analyses were performed on Saint Jerome in the studio and Saint Francis delivering the Rule, paintings preserved in the Museo e Real Bosco di Capodimonte. The IR scanning was performed to look beyond the visible layers of the paint f…

  • Gouache gilding on lead and wood objects studied by multivariate and graph analyses applied to XRF spectra

Open Access•J Brocchieri, Elvira Scialla et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science…•2022•Cited by: 1•References: 2

  • An analytical characterization of different gilding techniques on artworks from the Royal Palace (Caserta, Italy)

Open Access•J Brocchieri, Elvira Scialla et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Cultural Heritage•2022•References: 36

  • Widespread Fossil CO 2 in the Ansanto Valley (Italy)

Open Access•Manuela Capano, Simona Altieri et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2013•Cited by: 1•References: 26

The Ansanto Valley (southern Italy) is characterized by vents and boiling mud lakes that emit typical volcanic exhalations (mostly fossil CO 2 ). This fossil dilution spreads over the Ansanto Valley and its impact on local trees is investigated in this study. Six trees at increasing distance from the emitting sources and 2 aliquots of gas were sampled. Dendrochronological analysis was performed on tree cores in order to check the accuracy of the …

  • Radiocarbon Sample Preparation at the Circe AMS Laboratory in Caserta, Italy

Open Access•Isabella Passariello, Fabio Marzaioli et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2007•Cited by: 13•References: 12

A system with several lines for the preparation of graphite targets for radiocarbon analysis has been built at the new accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) facility in Caserta, Italy. Special attention has been paid in the design to the reduction of background contamination during sample preparation. Here, we describe the main characteristics of these preparation lines. Results of tests performed to measure 14 C background levels and isotope fract…
