  • Green spaces in Polish large prefabricated housing estates developed in the socialist era

Open Access•Tomasz Starczewski, Krzysztof Rogatka et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Housing and the Built…•2024•Cited by: 2•References: 6

Green spaces are an important element of the spatial structure in large prefabricated housing estates. They have their strengths and weaknesses and generate a number of opportunities and threats, the identification of which allows the potential of these areas to be realised and further developed. The goal of the study is to present the general condition and future of green spaces in large prefabricated housing estates in Poland. It is important t…

  • A multimetric approach to anthropogenic pressure analyses: A tool for measuring and mapping the human impact on the landscape

Open Access•Katarzyna Cegielska, Tomasz Salata•ARTICLE•Land Degradation and Development•2023

Widespread suburbanisation and significant anthropogenic pressure contribute to multidimensional transformations in the space around us. The present research is a response to the current research gap for exploration of new multimetric methods for measuring anthropogenic pressure, mathematical and statistical analysing it, and presenting research results. The developed method could facilitate the employment of measurable parameters and expert know…

  • Exploring green areas in Polish cities in context of anthropogenic land use changes

    Open Access•Tomasz Noszczyk, Katarzyna Cegielska et al.•ARTICLE•The Anthropocene Review•2023•Cited by: 1•References: 55

Recent decades saw a global degradation of ecosystems and climate change caused by rapid anthropogenic socio-economic growth. The paper investigates spatio-temporal changes in green areas in Polish cities. The study involved two levels: macro (all 936 towns and cities in Poland) and micro (zooming in on Kraków and Toruń) from 2006 to 2018. The authors analysed 64,312 records of statistical data and 32,317 polygons representing areas of specific l…

  • Urban Green Spaces: How geospatial information can help identify diversity. A case study from eastern Lesser Poland

Open Access•Katarzyna Cegielska, Piotrowski Piotr et al.•ARTICLE•Bulletin of Geography.…•2022

Progressing globalisation and suburbanisation are driving dynamic changes in land management, particularly in suburban zones. Green infrastructure and its impact on human quality of life are playing an increasingly important role in appropriate spatial management, because of human activities that are changing the natural environment. Therefore, monitoring and assessing the proportion of green spaces is essential for environmental, urban and socia…

  • Towards three decades of spatial development transformation in two contrasting post-Soviet cities—Kraków and Budapest

    Open Access•Anita Kukulska-Kozieł, Marta Szylar et al.•ARTICLE•Land Use Policy•2019•Cited by: 3•References: 64

Urban structure, land use, and land cover analysis are among of the primary problems of urban planning. The paper analyses the structure of land cover in Kraków and Budapest, cities with similar past. The investigation involved 41 districts (18 districts in Kraków and 23 districts in Budapest). The authors attempted to apply a methodology to develop an approach to seek out similarities between the investigated units. Cluster analyses and GIS meth…
