  • Living by the lake: Plant food diversity in a prehistoric lake‐dwelling community in the Republic of North Macedonia

Open Access•Amy Holguin, Michael Charles et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•2024•Cited by: 1•References: 45

This paper explores the relationship between wetland ecosystems and prehistoric lakeshore settlements within the Lake Ohrid basin (a biodiversity hotspot) by considering plant food systems at Ploča Mičov Grad, North Macedonia. The mid‐fifth millennium (c.4555–4373 to 4437–4241 cal BCE) waterlogged assemblage contained a diverse spectrum of crops and ‘wild’ resources, providing resilience against crop failure. Comparisons to earlier (c.5787–5722 t…

  • Virtual Reality applications for visualization of 6000-year-old Neolithic graves from Lenzburg (Switzerland)

    Open Access•Noah Steuri, Oliver Sahli et al.•ARTICLE•Digital Applications in…•2023•Cited by: 1•References: 17

The last decade has seen a steady increase in the application of virtual 3D approaches in cultural heritage research. Although a large literature exists about the advantages of 3D methods in this field, here we go one step further and elucidate a) how image-based 3D reconstructions can be displayed in virtual reality (VR) space using freeware game engine software and low-cost VR hardware and b) highlight the relative benefits and advantages with …

  • A novel Structure from Motion-based approach to underwater pile field documentation

Open Access•Johannes Reich, Philipp Steiner et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science…•2021•References: 11

This article presents a novel methodology to the underwater documentation of pile fields in archaeological lakeside settlement sites using Structure from Motion (SfM). Mapping the piles of such sites is an indispensable basis to the exploitation of the high resolution absolute chronological data gained through dendrochronology. In a case study at the underwater site of Ploča, Mičov Grad at Lake Ohrid, North Macedonia, nine consecutive 10 m2 strip…

  • First absolute chronologies of neolithic and bronze age settlements at Lake Ohrid based on dendrochronology and radiocarbon dating

Open Access•A Hafner, Johannes Reich et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science…•2021•Cited by: 3•References: 12

Specialized and systematic underwater fieldwork at the prehistoric site of Ploča Mičov Grad at Gradište (North Macedonia) on the eastern shore of Lake Ohrid was undertaken in 2018 and 2019. It has substantiated the archeological site’s outstanding preservation condition, and furthermore proven the numerous construction timbers’ suitability for dendrochronological analysis. Dendrochronological analysis on archaeological timbers was applied, combin…

  • Federalism and Mitigating Climate Change: The Merits of Flexibility, Experimentalism, and Dissonance

    Open Access•Johannes Reich•ARTICLE•Transnational Environmental Law•2021•Cited by: 1•References: 4

Federalism is ostensibly misplaced to mitigate climate change as a global public concern as it is prone to import the inadequate incentive structures existing at the international level into the domestic domain. Drawing from the legal structures and procedures of Swiss federalism, this article attempts to provide a more nuanced assessment of the relationship between laws designed to mitigate climate change and federalism. It seeks to demonstrate …

  • The Americanization of Swiss Legal Culture: Highlights of Cultural Encounters in an Evolving Transatlantic History of Law

    Open Access•Johannes Reich•ARTICLE•The American Journal of…•2018•References: 1

We have witnessed a sharp rise in the quest for a methodologically sound analysis of the “migration,”1 “transfer,”2 and “borrowing”3 of concepts between different legal systems.4 At the time of its foundation as a modern federal state in 1848, the Swiss Confederation (Switzerland) formed a republican island in an ocean of monarchies in the heart of Europe. The foundation of the United States of America, in turn, may be viewed as the first large-s…

    Johannes Reich•ARTICLE•Jahrbuch des öffentlichen Rechts…•2017

The 4th edition of the first volume of this work provides an update of the commentary on the preamble and articles 1 to 19 in case law and literature. The structure of the book has been retained and its content supplemented by more recent developments, such as the implications of Europeanisation and digitalisation as well as the Corona pandemic. As of the 4th edition, Frauke Brosius-Gersdorf has taken over the editorship of the commentary.
