    Gerald T Conaty•ARTICLE•Museum Management and Curatorship•2008•Cited by: 2•References: 17

In 1990, Glenbow began returning sacred objects to various First Nations. As the process developed, we came to understand that First Nations people consider these to be living and to be vital for maintaining balanced relationships with the non-human world. The effects that these objects have had on a variety of other relationships (Native/museum; museum/museum; Native/Native) suggests that the items become important for everyone who handles, poss…

  • Comment on Hayden's Resource Models of Inter-Assemblage Variability/Reply to Conaty

    Gerald T Conaty, Brian Hayden•ARTICLE•Lithic Technology•1987

Hayden (1986) has summarized the Bordes-Binford discussion concerning the measurement and interpretation of inter-assemblage variability of lithic artifacts and has suggested ways in which this variability can lead to interpretations of prehistoric subsistence strategies. These considerations are important for, as he (1986:82) observes, “Understanding assemblage differences is the very heart of archaeological interpretation...” However, both the …

  • The Significance of Seeds in Eastern Woodlands Prehistoric Economy: A Contextual Analysis

    Open Access•Gerald T Conaty•ARTICLE•North American Archaeologist•1984•References: 13

Macrobotanical remains from eight archaeological sites in the Eastern Woodlands are compared to determine if there are significant trends in the paleoeconomic importance of seeds. Data obtained from feature-fill and from general midden deposits present different profiles of the significance of seeds in prehistory. It is argued that the context from which data are obtained must be considered in any discussion of the significance of that informatio…
