Lights, Camera, Activism: Recognition Strategies in Hollywood and Comedy
Against the background of the #MeToo movement and the national reckoning with American racism, we assess how professionals in two fields of cultural entertainment engage in strategies to promote recognition. This article develops a cultural and contextual approach to studying agency that attends to variation in how people narrate their experiences. Drawing on the large-scale, nationally representative American Voices Project data, the article uses computational methods to test patterns in agentic expression and qualitative methods to examine how respondents narrate agency and passivity as they describe their lives. Change management is a necessary ingredient in successful IT‐initiated organizational change. This article discusses the reasons why change can be difficult, the key roles in managing change, and the positive reframing of political disagreements as opportunities for stakeholders to learn new skills.
Loose Connections and Liberal Theology: Blurring the Boundaries in Two Church-Based Communities of Spiritual Practice
We used a mixed methods approach-including ethnographic fieldwork, interviews, and a survey-to study two innovative Christian contemplative worship services housed in a mainline Protestant congregation in a midwestern city. Conflict-Handling and Personality Dimensions of Project-Management Personnel
A sample of 199 project management personnel took the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and the Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Mode instrument. Results supported the earlier research of Thomas and Kilmann (1975) with two extensions. Extraversion in our sample was not associated with cooperation, and it correlated with both the distributive and integrative dimensions of conflict handling
The Organizational Validity of Management Information Systems
Organizational validity refers to the “fit” between an information system and its organizational context of use. This paper applies the concept to MIS and extends it beyond earlier formulations. The conditions fostering invalid systems and two processes by which organizational validity is achieved, integration and negotiation, are discussed. Task Redesign: Individual Moderating and Novelty Effects
This paper examines reactions to actual redesign of a clerical, information-processing task. The moderating effects of individual work values are noted along with "novelty effects. " Workers with intrinsic work orientations held more favorable attitudes toward task redesign, although favorableness was negatively related to actual experience with the new task. Workers with extrinsic work orientations had less favorable attitudes toward change, but…
